Good morning folks. Another week Youth Weston Richburg Jersey , another loss - so seems to be the trend. While last week’s loss was mostly infuriating due to the late game heroics of Aaron Rodgers, this week’s loss can be aptly described, in my opinion, as tiring. Virtually everything that could go wrong went wrong, including poor play displayed by all three phases of the team, as well as further injuries. It became physically uncomfortable to watch the game, as the pummeling seemed to drag on and on, without mercy.Where to begin? Considering that the Rams thoroughly demolished the 49ers, there’s really no good place to start. Jared Goff completed 75% of his passes, Todd Gurley scored three combined TDs, and Aaron Donald registered four sacks. The Rams special teams unit blocked a punt for a safety, and found success in the return game to give them advantageous field position - assuming that the 49ers even made it to fourth down without turning the dadgum ball over! The 49ers turned the ball over four times, which appears to be right around average for this squad throughout the season. Two fumbles, and two interceptions. When drives weren’t being killed by seven different sacks throughout the competition (ha!), they were being killed by handing the ball right over to opponent. Add in a failed fourth down conversion towards the end of the game, and it’s fairly apparent why this team was blown out in such an embarrassing fashion. Both Matt Breida and Adrian Colbert left the game with unspecified, but clearly lower leg injuries. These injuries should be updated later today. Maybe the only bright spot on the team was George Kittle, who had another productive game, which has been the story of his season. In fact, he was more or less the only productive member of the team , outside of kicker Robbie Gould. Kittle’s 98 receiving yards on Sunday put him over 500 for the season - which puts him on track for roughly 1200 yards assuming a 16 game campaign. Swearinger, released abruptly by the Washington Redskins this week after publicly criticizing the defensive coaching, didn't need much time to find a landing place. He's back in Arizona with the Cardinals, where he played part of 2015 and all of the 2016 season.Speaking in front of his new locker on Wednesday, Swearinger called it a "rocky Christmas" and acknowledged that he was wrong to speak out against Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Manusky and criticize the team's strategy in a 25-16 loss to Tennessee.Still, he was surprised, he said Womens Jaquiski Tartt Jersey , that it led to his release from the team."Just living and learning," Swearinger said, "understanding you know it wasn't my role to call out the defensive coaches even though we had a relationship. Me and the coaches had a good relationship. But it's just learning. I keep my mouth shut next time and just keep moving and play football, do what I do on the field."Swearinger acknowledged he's emotional and that controlling himself is difficult in the minutes after the game."I'm a very passionate player," Swearinger said. "I put my heart in this game. You put the camera in my face after we lose a game that we're supposed to go to the playoffs, I may say some things that I shouldn't' say. That's on me. I've got to control that and get better at that, but like I said, live and learn and keep moving forward. That's life."After the Redskins practice Wednesday, coach Jay Gruden said this wasn't the first time Swearinger had problems such as this."Yeah, repeat offenses. I've had many talks with him before," Gruden said. "Obviously I didn't get through to him. Again, that's my responsibility. At the end of the day we decided as an organization to move on."Swearinger had made significant contributions to the Washington defense. He had four interceptions (matching a career high), 53 tackles, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate."D.J. did some great things here without a doubt," Gruden said. "We wish nothing but the best but at the end of the day that's something that this franchise or any franchise can't afford to have. We've moved on."Swearinger said he got a nice welcome from Patrick Peterson and other players who were around three seasons ago. Swearinger played four games for Arizona in 2015 and was with the Cardinals the entire 2016 season, finishing with three interceptions, 64 tackles and two sacks. That success led to his three-year deal with Washington. The Cardinals, with the NFL's worst record at 3-12, were the first team that could claim Swearinger off waivers. He has one year left on the deal he signed with Washington.Arizona's first-year coach Steve Wilks said that claiming Swearinger was "a great move by us.""I don't know him personally but I like his play," Wilks said. "Scouting him Youth Dustin Hopkins Jersey , going against him, a very physical guy, tough, nasty, the DNA that we look for. Personality-wise talking to everybody in the locker room, everybody in the building, they love him."Wilks said he will talk to Swearinger about keeping any criticism in-house."I don't stand in front of you guys and throw coaches or players underneath the bus, that's not my style," Wilks told reporters. "That's what we would need to address. I don't have a problem with his opinion, but we're not going to have that opinion outside the building. He would quickly understand that."It's uncertain whether Swearinger will play in Sunday's season finale at Seattle or how much he figures in the Cardinals' plans for next season."I can only control what I can control," he said. "Tomorrow I'm going to come get ready for practice like I know how. If I play on Sunday, I'll be more than ready to play. If I don't, I'll cheer my guys on and do whatever I need to do to help this team win. ... I'm just happy to be back in Arizona."Wilks might not be the coach past this weekend, but Swearinger is planning to stay."I'm just ready to play, regardless of who the coach is, regardless of who the players are," Swearinger said. "I'm ready to play and I'm ready to win."The Redskins' Josh Norman said it's just more of the same for his team."Every week's been a circus for the last six weeks," he said.Notes: Arizona lost yet another offensive lineman when rookie tackle Korey Cunningham was placed on injured reserve. He's the seventh offensive lineman placed on IR by Arizona this season.Freelancer Bobby Bancroft contributed to this report.
  2. we have the matchup for Super Bowl LIII finalized. The Los Angeles Rams will be taking on the New England Patriots San Francisco 49ers Hats , a championship game that last happened in 2001 when the Rams were based in St. Louis. The Rams and the Patriots didn’t meet in 2018, but this should be a fun game given the potential of the offenses and the weaknesses of both teams. Many of you aren’t fans of either team being in the Super Bowl, but it should be a fun game nevertheless. It will be a rematch from when the then-St. Louis Rams and New England Patriots faced off in 2001 at Super Bowl XXXVII—the game where the legend of Tom Brady began.Los Angeles RamsA very, very good NFC championship game may have been ruined in the final minutes thanks to an awful pass interference no-call that could have won the Saints the game had it been flagged. Ironically, the Rams were petitioning for the officiating crew of the NFC Championship to be removed because of bias against the Rams. I’d say that can be tossed in the trash. While the Saints took an early lead and looked to be routing the Rams, the Rams bounced back with a touchdown at the end of the first half to cut the Saints lead to just three points. In the second half, long Rams drives and a hit-or-miss Saints offense let the Rams get the game tied up. The a Drew Brees interception in overtime along with some key yardage-chewers from the Rams sealed the deal for a 26-23 victory and punched ticket to the Super Bowl.New England PatriotsThe AFC Championship started somewhat boring then turned to flat-out bizarre. The Patriots held a small lead over the Chiefs for most of the game. The craziness happened almost halfway into the fourth. After a flubbed muffed punt call that would have given the Chiefs a touchdown, Tom Brady threw a crucial interception that led to a quick Damien Williams touchdown a couple plays later.. From there, a strange roughing the passer call and an upheld catch challenge helped put the Patriots into the redzone and back and forth we went with lead changes, touchdowns, and bizarre calls. The game almost was put away in the Patriots’ final drive during regulation San Francisco 49ers Hoodie , but Dee Ford lined up offsides during a Tom Brady interception that left the Patriots on the field. After the eventual touchdown and with 31 seconds left, Mahomes led the Chiefs down the field into field goal range to put the game into overtime. The Patriots won the toss and converted several third downs to get into the redzone and win with a Rex Burkhead run near the goal line. The Patriots won 37-31.It’s a game many are not thrilled to see, but it at least is two teams that haven’t met in the regular season with strengths and weaknesses that could compliment each other for something entertaining. I’m going to it with an open mind, we’ll see. The TDs will come. It's just a matter of time. The problem for the Giants (1-3) is they need something to happen soon. This weekend on the road against the Carolina Panthers (2-1) would be timely."It's just about when you catch fire," Beckham said Thursday. "But there does need to be a sense of urgency to play better, do better, execute Customized San Francisco 49ers Jerseys , win games, but there's definitely not a panic in my mind, in my body, soul, my heart. I'm not panicking."Beckham, who signed a five-year, $95 million contract extension in training camp, is having a good season coming off a broken ankle that limited him to four games last season. He leads the team with 31 catches for 331 yards, a 10.7 yard average. The only thing absent from his statistics is the touchdowns, and there is a good reason for that.Opposing teams are doubling him more often than not, and they are playing a lot of two-deep zone to prevent him from going deep. That's what Panthers coach Ron Rivera saw when he watched film of the Giants' offense."I do see where people most certainly are paying attention to where Odell Beckham is lined up , that's for dog-gone sure," Rivera said. "That makes a lot of sense to me."The Giants also have been without tight end Evan Engram since he sprained a knee in Week 3 at Houston. He helps open things up for the other receivers.Beckham said in a recent game the Giants got into the red zone and set up for a passing play. He looked up and saw a nickel cornerback covering him with a safety offering help over the top and a linebacker shading in his direction."So I joked with everybody, I was like: 'You know that I'm coming back off the ankle surgery,'" Beckham said. "I'm thinking maybe I'll get a chance, you have to prove yourself, and it's like they just jumped right back into what they were doing last year, doubling up and doing those things. We just have to find ways to get around that."The Giants have struggled to score points. They have been held to 15, 13 and 18 in losses to the Jaguars, Cowboys and Saints. They beat Houston 27-22 in their best game offensive, although they were held to seven points in the second half. What's been missing has been the big play. New York has nine passes of 20 or more yards and only two at 30 or better.Beckham's long was a 30-yarder against Houston. The running game is similar. The Giants have nine runs of 20 or more yards, with Saquon Barkley having eight of them San Francisco 49ers T-Shirt , the long being a 68-yarder against Jacksonville. It's the only run over 30 yards.Offensive coordinator Mike Shula, who was the Panthers coordinator last season, said the Giants aren't going to start forcing passes to Beckham, who had 38 touchdown catches in his first four seasons, the last being a four-game run."I think he's very talented," Shula said of Beckham. "He's going to get the ball. He's going to get us in the end zone. He's going to get in the end zone. More importantly, we need to score more, however we do it. Whether or not it's Odell, or Saquon, whoever it is. We just need to get down there number one, and finish drives."Beckham said the offense has just made too many mistakes. They move the chains on drives and then allow a sack or commit a penalty that puts them in second or third-and-long. It's a no-win situation. In the three losses San Francisco 49ers Hats , the Giants have gotten into the red zone six times, scoring three touchdowns. That's not enough for either the number of trips or the TDs.Beckham believes he will step up."I don't feel like I've been stopped, no disrespect to anybody, but I don't feel like I can be covered," he said. "I am just very confident in me, I've worked an entire offseason to be able to bring the best me to this team and I just want to be able to do that."NOTES: CB Eli Apple (hamstring) practiced fully for the first time since being hurt against Dallas on Sept. 16. ... LB Olivier Vernon (ankle) was limited. He has not played in a game this season. ... New York signed WR Quadree Henderson to the practice squad. He is a rookie out of Pittsburgh.

After the season Youth Patrick Omameh Jersey , New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman put the onus for the failed season on the defensive side of the ball. And there was some truth in that -- The Giants are stocked with talent at the offensive skill positions, but they need to invest resources to add talent to the defensive side of the ball. Some of that will surely be acquiring top-tier talent and playmakers, but they will also look to invest some of their (many) late-round picks in players who might be a good return on investment. Temple defensive lineman Michael Dogbe will likely fly under the radar in a draft class which is absolutely stacked with talent on the defensive front, but he could be the type of sleeper for which the Giants are looking.MeasurablesHeight: 6-foot-3Weight: 280ProsCompact, powerful lineman.Very strong. Stands up double teams and can over-power single blockers. Shows good hand usage. Constantly using hands to create space and work past blockers.Flashes several pass rushing moves. Plays all over the defensive line, from defensive end to nose tackle. Wears a single-digit number.ConsLength will be a concern for some teams.Lateral agility is an issue.First step is okay, but not great. Pass rushing upside is a question.Frame could be maxed out.Numbers Of NoteStatistics from Dan PizzutaDogbe was 10th among all defensive tackles in pressures last season with 30, per Sports Info Solutions. His six solo sacks tied for third and his seven total sacks were fewer than onlyColorado’s Mustafa Johnson. Dogbe also led all NCAA defensive tackles with three forced fumbles in 2018.Prospect VideoWhat They’re Saying “An undersized interior defensive lineman, Dogbe was highly disruptive and energetic, blowing through gaps and wreaking havoc behind the line of scrimmage. He even saw a couple reps off the edge, showing good hand usage to corner. Interesting player who will likely need to prove his versatility consistently to have a shot in the NFL.”- Jon Ledyard (The Draft Network, Shrine Game practice notes)Does He Fit The Giants? He does. The Giants acquired quite a few defensive linemen last year who play a similar role to Dogbe -- that is, a defensive lineman who can line up across the defensive line depending on down, distance, and sub package. He isn’t as tall as players like Kerry Wynn, Josh Mauro, or R.J. McIntosh, but he is as powerful as any of them and uses his hands well to keep his chest clean. Lateral agility is an issue for him, and while he can show a good first step, he isn’t truly explosive. That might limit him as a pass rusher, but his power Aldrick Rosas Jersey , leverage, and ability to When I listed Dogbe’s strengths, the last one was “wears a single-digit number.” That isn’t a strength in and of itself, but when you see a Temple defender wearing a single digit, it conveys all kinds of things. It is school short-hand for a player who is tough, hard-nosed, has a non-stop motor, is always one of the hardest working guys on the field. Dogbe probably won’t have the pre-draft rise that players like Muhammed Wilkerson or Haason Reddick had, but he could be a sleeper to keep your eye on.Valentine’s Views: Thoughts on Ereck Flowers, Eli Manning after Week 1 Ereck Flowers played an awful football game Sunday for the New York Giants. There was a tripping penalty on the first play of the season. A holding penalty on the third. He allowed a sack and a team-worst 7 of the 18 pressures the Jacksonville Jaguars got in Eli Manning’s 39 drop backs on Sunday. Only two tackles allowed more pressures. Only one who played more than 50 snaps had a lower pass-blocking grade.Flowers’ overall Pro Football Focus grade was just 49.6, only 38.4 as a pass blocker. His play was bad. Anyone who watched saw that. And before you get all crazy about Giants coach Pat Shurmur defending Flowers on Monday by saying, among other things, “He had a lot of really good plays and he had a couple that he’d like to have back,” what is Shurmur supposed to do?The coach can see the film. He knows what he should, and should not, have seen better then you. Or me. Or any Twitter film critic out there. The Giants are stuck with Flowers for this season, though. He’s a Jerry Reese gift that keeps on giving. Or taking, whichever you prefer. He is in the final year of his rookie contract. He wasn’t ever going anywhere. He isn’t going anywhere now. Except back out to right tackle to try again.GM Dave Gettleman did a lot of things in the offseason. He couldn’t work a miracle and either a) find a taker for Flowers or b) make him a better player.Thing is, we know all that already. We know he wasn’t good on Sunday. Shurmur knows it. Flowers knows it. His teammates know it. The question is now whether Flowers can rebound from it, or if this was a sign of things to come. After not speaking to reporters on Sunday, Flowers did so Monday. I’m glad he did. Sunday Authentic Rhett Ellison Jersey , he left teammates to speak for, and about, him. Monday, he took responsibility.Flowers said he “did some good things, but I think there’s some things I need to work on.” He also said he is “trying to get better.”He called the pick 6 where he appeared to get beaten badly around the edge a “hard play.”“The linebacker came, I was supposed to pick him up. He came and then he left, so I stepped to get him and then I had to pop back out last minute. See what I’m saying? I had two people inside first,” Flowers said.He said he is well aware of the criticism heaped upon him from outside the building, but that “it doesn’t matter, I don’t lose sleep over it.”“I lose sleep over what these guys in my room and on this team think about me, that’s it,” he said. All of that is fine. It’s good. It’s what you would expect him to say. No one wants to be bad their job. No one wants to embarrass themselves on national TV. No one wants to hear constant criticism from the media or the Twitter bench jockeys. That isn’t fun. One thing, though, about Flowers’ remarks befuddled — and concerned — me.Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Calais Campbell, the man he was going to be assigned to block most of the day, is in his 12th season. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and was an All-Pro last season. There are voluminous scouting reports on the opposition provided by teams. Access to all the film you could possibly want to study. Yet, Flowers didn’t appear to know what to expect from Campbell on Sunday. In talking about the game-opening tripping penalty, with Campbell lined up against him, he said:“It was a quick pass so I jumped out there too fast on it. Next time I know what type of player I’m against, he’s not really a speed guy, so next time I’m won’t jump out so fast.”Umm ... what? With all of the information at your disposal how can you line up against an All-Pro in the season-opening game and not know what type of player you were going up against?GM Dave Gettleman talks about watching film until his eyes bleed. NFL players are known for studying hours and hours of tape each week — grinding away to find the slightest tendencies Youth Kerry Wynn Jersey , the slightest tells, the tiniest bits of information they can gather to give them an advantage on game days. Some, though, really never master the art of studying the game. And it is an art. You have to know what you’re looking for, and how to use that information when you find it. Those who master it have a better chance of mastering their craft and succeeding on Sunday. Those who don’t will forever be at a disadvantage.Maybe that answer in itself reveals at least part of the reason why Flowers has continued to struggle during his four seasons with the Giants.I have no idea what Flowers’ study habits are. Or whether Flowers, noticeably reticent in speaking to the media, simply didn’t frame his statement well. That remark about Campbell, though, raises more questions than it answers.Quick thoughts on the offensive line in generalYes, the Giants have to be concerned about the offensive line. Still, let’s remember that the Jaguars possess a dominant defense. The Giants were never going to dominate the line of scrimmage in that game.If you think the cavalry is coming to upgrade the offensive line, guess again. Look at this list of available free agent tackles and tell me who you have confidence in. The Giants may add someone, but there’s no guarantee any of them will be better than what the Giants have.Eli Manning wasn’t the problem on SundayIn the press room on Sunday evening and on Twitter or in the BBV comments ever since Sunday’s game ended, there are those who want to blame the loss on quarterback Eli Manning. To put it succinctly, that’s a bunch of nonsense. If you’ve been reading Big Blue View for a while you know where I stand on Manning. I’m in the pro-Manning camp. That doesn’t make me blind to his weaknesses. It doesn’t make me incapable of seeing when he messes up, or admitting he’s done so. In no way, though, can you blame Sunday’s loss on Manning. Unless you are so far into the “I hate Eli, love Davis Webb and can’t believe the Giants didn’t draft Sam Darnold” camp that you can’t see clearly. In my view, Manning missed one throw — ONE!! — that he clearly should have completed on Sunday, the post to Odell Beckham Jr. that could have been a touchdown. The pick 6? Watch the play.I haven’t a clue how you can watch that play and objectively blame the outcome on Manning. Flowers is beaten badly to the outside Curtis Riley Jersey , forcing Manning to step up. Patrick Omameh is tossed away like a dishrag by Abry Jones, who ends up right in the path of Manning’s throw and swats it into the air. What is Manning supposed to do about any of that?Manning’s not perfect. He didn’t play a perfect game. He took a pounding, pressured 18 times in 39 drop backs per Pro Football Focus, as the offensive line struggled. Let’s not forget the Jaguars have one of the NFL’s best defenses. The Giants showed some warts on Sunday. You can’t convince me that Manning was one of them. Here’s BBV quarterback guru Mark Schofield’s take on Manning’s Sunday:“They call it Overreaction Monday for a reason. This time last year the Ravens were back, the Chiefs were the best team in football and the Patriots had a host of problems. But it’s a long season and the results on a rainy afternoon at MetLife Stadium should be evaluated in context and used as a baseline. Did Eli Manning miss on a throw that might have changed the course of that game? Sure. New York caught Jacksonville in a Cover 4 look and got Odell Beckham isolated on a safety, but Manning’s throw was a step too far. Certainly a throw you’d like to see Manning make, but remember that this was a historically good pass defense a season ago, so making throws against Jacksonville is often a tough ask. The Pick Six was a disaster, and it started with Ereck Flowers up front. He got into his kick slide to try and match the speed of Yannick Ngakoue off the edge, but then stepped inside as he saw Telvin Smith come down to cover Saquon Barkley out of the backfield, assuming the LB was blitzing. He wasn’t, and that gave Ngakoue a free shot at Manning, who tried to climb the pocket and hit Barkley on a Texas route, but the pass was then tipped by Abry Jones and into the waiting arms of Myles Jack. That’s ... bad all around, but Manning did what he could when put in a difficult position. It’s not time to overreact, yet. “There were other missed opportunities, such as the fourth-and-6 throw to Sterling Shepard that came on a wheel route - a tough route to throw - that Manning underthrew by a step. If he hits either that throw, or the earlier post to Beckham, the conversation Monday morning is a much different one.”I will side with Mark, a guy who has played the position and understands it as well as anyone I know.
  4. Ereck Flowers.Coach Pat Shurmur said Monday the offensive tackle who was the ninth pick overall was going to be cut or traded by 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The move isn't a surprise for the Giants (1-4). Flowers lost his starting job at right tackle to Chad Wheeler after the second game of the season and the play of the line picked up.Flowers has been a disappointment since being taken out of Miami. He was supposed to be the team's left tackle for the next decade. His play was so poor New York signed former New England Patriots left tackle Nate Solder to a four-year New York Giants Womens Hoodie , $62 million contract as a free agent this spring .New general manager Dave Gettleman also decided after last season not to pick up the option on the final year of Flowers' rookie contract. He is making almost $2.4 million this season.During the offseason, former Giants coach Ben McAdoo criticized Flowers play.Shurmur moved Flowers to right tackle after Solder was signed and said he was getting a fresh start.Flowers was not at the Giants' practice Monday."It has run its course," Shurmur said of the decision to drop Flowers. "We appreciate Ereck's efforts. We wish him the best. Sometimes a change of scenery is good for a person."Flowers started 48 regular-season games and one postseason game in three-plus seasons. Giants head coach Pat Shurmur talked about a few topics from Sunday’s 33-31 loss to the Panthers to open his press conference on Sunday before he was asked his first question about wide receiver Odell Beckham‘s interview with Josina Anderson of ESPN.Beckham said Womens Customized New York Giants Jerseys , among other things, that he didn’t know if Eli Manning was the problem with the team’s offense and that the Giants were lacking heart and energy. Beckham also didn’t say yes when asked if he was happy with the team and there was a report that Shurmur was “livid” with Beckham. That same report had Beckham apologizing to the team on Saturday night.Shurmur had responded on Friday by saying that he disagreed with Beckham’s assessment of the team’s heart and had spoken to Beckham. He reiterated that on Sunday before saying he was done talking about “drama.”“I addressed it with Odell,” Shurmur said I addressed it with our team. . Done”Despite that closing line, Shurmur did answer another question and said he did not ask Beckham to apologize while saying again that the locker room took care of it in a way he believes will help the team. At 1-4 New York Giants T-Shirt , they certainly need any help they can get.
  5. draft early Thursday morning. You can see his entire first round here (Insider Subscription required). The Redskins are picking at #15 in the first round , and can go in many different directions based on team needs and projected value at that pick. However, most expect the Redskins to target a quarterback if one they like is available in the early rounds. Despite Drew Lock and Daniel Jones sitting there at #15, McShay has the Redskins taking a play-making wide receiver.15. Washington RedskinsMarquise Brown, WR, Oklahoma*Washington really wants a receiver, and Brown is an absolute burner. Despite being 5-foot-9 , he can win vertically and has shown the ability to pluck the ball away from his body even as he rips along in fifth gear. The Redskins will keep an eye on quarterback Alex Smith’s recovery, but Brown makes sense here for a team that needs a spark on offense. As a Redskins fan, how do you feel about the 5’9” 168 pound speedster in the first round? The Green Bay Packers might get injured inside linebacker Oren Burks back for their game Sunday against the Washington Redskins. The rookie appeared to be in line to open the season as the starter inside alongside Blake Martinez when he hurt his shoulder during warmups before a preseason game last month in Oakland. He was cleared on Wednesday to return to practice as a full participant.Depth has also been replenished at running back, where Aaron Jones figures to return on Sunday after missing the season's first two games after being suspended by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy. At the least, the returns of Burks and Jones will help the Packers on special teams. They have each shown the talent to contribute in other ways too.Jones, who was also bothered by a hamstring injury in the preseason , ran for 448 yards and four touchdowns on 81 carries last year. He had two 100-yard games, including 125 and a score on 19 carries in a win at Dallas on Oct. 8.Coach Mike McCarthy has said that Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery will remain atop the depth chart. Jones gives the Packers another option in the backfield with his slashing ability."Give the defense a little bit more to worry about," Williams said Thursday. "Aaron's just a sparkplug, really. He's always trying to open holes, especially if one's closed, he'll find another one really and bounce it outside."A third-round pick out of Vanderbilt , Burks moved up the depth chart after Jake Ryan was lost for the year in training camp with a torn ACL. The Packers traded for Antonio Morrison from the Colts to help with depth at inside linebacker after Burks went down. They also picked up Korey Toomer and James Crawford before the season started.Burks remains atop the depth chart inside next to Martinez, having raised his profile during the preseason."We'll see what the week brings us, McCarthy said before practice on Thursday. "You could see him progressing through training camp, so it will be great to get him back out there."Burks played inside linebacker and safety in college. His experience in coverage could help against the Redskins and running back Chris Thompson, who leads Washington with 19 receptions.RODGERS UPDATEMcCarthy expected quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is playing with a left knee injury , to follow a practice plan similar to last week before the Vikings game. Saturday was the only day that Rodgers practiced last week. He played well, especially considering the injury, completing 30 of 42 passes for 281 yards and a touchdown in the 29-29 tie with Minnesota. This week, McCarthy gave the whole team off from practice on Wednesday and elected to do a walkthrough instead, feeling that his players could use a break after a season-opening night game followed by the overtime game against Minnesota. Rodgers was due to focus on rehab on Thursday.INJURY REPORTBesides Rodgers, CB Kevin King (groin) also missed practice. ... CB Davon House (biceps) and S Josh Jones (ankle) were limited. Youth Trent Williams Jersey , DB Who is Kenny Ladler?Kenny Ladler spent the last two seasons playing as a strong side linebacker for the Edmunton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League after his first year of professional football as a safety for the Buffalo Bills in 2014 was cut short. It seems like the hometown Edmunton paper, the Sun, is excited for Ladler and his opportunity to return to the NFL.The paper featured him in an article back in January:Ladler’s draft profile and career progressionA free safety coming out of Vanderbilt in 2014, Ladler’s draft profile listed him at 6’0” and 207 pounds ( lists him at 6’1” and 200 pounds). He was projected as a late round draft pick in the ‘14 draft, but ended up as an undrafted free agent with the Buffalo Bills.Getty ImagesIn highlighting his strengths, described him this way:As a rookie in Buffalo, Ladler played in two October games for the Bills 4th ranked defense before breaking his arm and losing the rest of his season. Ian Cummings, of Riggo’s Rag, wrote about Ladler a few months ago when the Redskins signed him:Kenny Ladler, with three seasons of professional football experience — two of them with a CFL playoff team — seems to have exactly the skills needed to break into the roster. He seems to be competing for a spot at free safety, pitting him against Troy Apke for the job of backing up Montae Nicholson, though he has the size and experience to possibly play linebacker in nickel packages. With his proven playmaking abilities, positional flexibility, and special teams experience Youth Chase Roullier Jersey , despite his lack of straight line speed Ladler is likely to take the position battle all the way to the end of training camp.Kenny Ladler is a legitimate contender for one of the safety spots on the Redskins roster.I wouldn’t bet against him. After an emotion-filled win over Cleveland David DeCastro Jersey , the Steelers look to really roll at the half-way point of their season if they could just exorcise demons against a bitter rival in a tough place to play. If you want to know how my emotions fluctuated throughout the day, keep on reading.Nonetheless, a simple reminder, a knee jerk reaction is an immediate and unthinking, emotional reaction. It’s basically shooting first and apologizing later. I can safely say that’s a true definition of your’s truly and a good lot of Steeler Nation. Here’s my real-time reactions during the Steelers’ most recent quest for redemption.Quarter 1.They need to get off of the field without yielding points on this first drive.Burnett was way out of position on the first down to Andrews.Even though the Ravens recovered, the botched handoff from Lamar Jackson could neutralize him going forward.Tuitt’s sack won’t count. He was offsides. They are bringing pressure and it’s their best bet to make a difference.I like Ben’s “stronger then hate” shoes. Nice tribute.Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY SportsIf they can get Conner going early, it will help set up the pass. I wonder if Big Ben sees TSizzle in his dreams. Not a fan of runs on third and long. That pooch punt was Berry-like. I’d rather them had gone for it.I’m glad Kay Jewelers allowed me to miss a big Raven gain.Hilton May be 5’9”, but he plays huge.Holding them to three is huge.James Washington needs a catch bad, but that was no way the rookie’s fault.Gotta love “Toe Tap Tony”.I’d love to see a TD here, but one to No. 13 would be awesome.Thought that was going to be a pick six.Pretty touchdown for James Conner. Nice assist by the Vanimal.AB’s finger needs to be okay.Quarter 2A good First Quarter for Pittsburgh. Need to keep it going. They seem better prepared for Jackson this time.A short pass third and long by BMore, glad to see another fan base shake their heads in disbelief.Washington is emerging. The line really won that first down. Good hole for JC.They aren’t going for it. Just looking to draw a penalty.Glad I was wrong.Love that drive. Love AB getting involved.Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY SportsWas surprised they called that on Edmunds. That really could have been a roughing call. Ben got walloped by Onwuasor.Really missed an opportunity on that drive. JuJu can’t drop those. The Steelers need to keep them pointless up to the half.Bud Dupree was definitely held there. No worries.Vance was down.Good half.Quarter 3A head shot is not equal to a hold. JuJu got crushed.Good blitz pick up by the Steelers. With JuJu out, switcher and Washington you can come up big.ABC. AB=Clutch.Good to see No. 19 back.A touchdown here could be a killer. I love when my predictions are wrong. Conner is closing in on the century mark.Amazing drive. That’s where deferring works perfectly. Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports Well looks like the prediction on Boswell’s being back was wrong. These teams are getting real chippy with each other now. It’s a shame that pick is getting negated. That could have really squashed the Ravens. With the lead only seven Authentic Javon Hargrave Jersey , the Steelers are approaching the danger zone.Bud Dupree has really come alive. He’s becoming an asset.Quarter 4Third and 23. Gotta stop them here.Should have had good field position, but the field just got flipped big time. They need a clock-killing drive here.Offensive PI. This officiating crew is awful.Josh Dobbs. Wow!!!Ben is a cowboy. Damaged, dinged but always rides. The Outlaw steals the show. I love Jesse James.Boswell needs to rebound here. And he does. Wow!Huge third down.AB is a huge player. So is Ben and JuJu.They need to convert again on third down to ice this game. That was a coverage sack. Smart by Ben to take it.:57 seconds. Never easy.Coty needs to catch those. Nice game by him though.Nix got blocked in the back. Not called. Really?Tuitt has really come alive. Dupree...Oh no!Great team win. But better yet, a complete as I replay the game more and more in my head, my perceptions and maybe my prescriptions will alter. But for now, you just got a glimpse of the first thoughts that popped in my mind while I was watching this game. Feel free to get your knee jerks on in the comments section.Have the Steelers solved their linebacker conundrum, or is it merely window dressing? Much of what happened during the just-completed Steelers’ preseason was positive and hopeful heading into the 2018 regular season this coming weekend. In particular, the Steelers’ early-round draft picks were mostly impressive — including a pair of great-looking young quarterbacks, Joshua Dobbs and Mason Rudolph, who earned spots on the 53-man roster. The Black-and-gold also signed yet another strong, athletic wide receiver in James Washington, plus two undrafted Youth Sean Davis Jersey , free-agent linebackers (Matthew Thomas and Ola Adeniyi) who’ve demonstrated unforeseen promise. But while it seems a foregone conclusion the Steelers will enter the 2018 regular season chock-full of offensive firepower, what’s less certain is whether the Black-and-gold have effectively addressed defensive shortcomings which ultimately cost them the chance to advance in last-season’s playoffs. While the Steelers certainly scored enough points to beat Jacksonville last January, their Swiss-cheese defense was manhandled by the Jaguars throughout the game, with linebacker play being one of the notable culprits.Young linebackers Thomas and Adeniyi were impressive in the preseason games, but Adeniyi was just placed on IR and it remains to be seen whether Thomas, in addition to ex-Colt Jon Bostic, will represent a significant upgrade to the Steelers’ late-2017 linebacker corps. The loss of Ryan Shazier’s exceptional speed and athleticism at ILB was quite noticeable during the latter stage of last season — particularly when the Steelers faced the Jaguars’ superstar RB Leonard Fournette, who rushed for 109 yards on 25 carries (4.4-yard average) and three TDs in Jacksonville’s 45-42 victory at Heinz Field. As they prepare for Opening Day in Cleveland, the harsh reality facing the Steelers is that, even in a playoff game where Ben Roethlisberger turned in one of his better performances as a pro — completing 37 passes for 469 yards — it wasn’t enough to overcome a porous defense that put up scant resistance to the Jaguars’ offensive attack. And given the wealth of outstanding, young RBs and Tight Ends in the NFL these days, it’s difficult to compete without excellence pervading your linebacker unit. But question marks still abound regarding the overall play of OLB Bud Dupree Cheap James Conner Jersey , and 2018 could be a make-or-break year for No. 48. As for Bostic, we can hardly judge his ultimate value to this defense based on what we’ve seen from him during the preseason. Only when he’s going head-to-head against the league’s best OLs, RBs and TEs will we know whether the former second-round pick (50th overall selection in 2013) can get the job done consistently. Furthermore, if Bostic doesn’t make the grade, then the rookie Thomas will be getting his trial-by-fire, facing offensive players far better than any he’s ever dealt with before. At that point, Thomas would also be in a sink-or-swim situation, and his performance in the recently-concluded preseason won’t mean a thing. While I’d like nothing better than to be proven wrong in this case, I don’t see Bostic as the answer to our needs at ILB, and L.J. Fort — at age 28 — has never been more than a depth player at the position. As for the rookie Thomas, it’s going to take at least a couple of years before he masters his position at the level required for a starting NFL linebacker. So in my book, this means the Steelers still need more immediate help at ILB , and it doesn’t appear they’ve done much more than to put window dressing over some significant issues that continue to exist at this position. For this reason, I’d say the one 11th-hour personnel move which would be least surprising would have the Steelers signing an experienced, veteran ILB if the opportunity presents itself.Although they might decide to wait until after the upcoming game with the Browns to get a better idea of what they’ve actually got at ILB, I don’t see Mike Tomlin standing pat with a unit which continues to be gashed by the ground game, along with persistent pass-coverage issues. It’s only a hunch, but I’ve got a feeling that, when the film reviews are done this month in the wake of the early games of the season, we might hear more complaints about the linebacker play than any other aspect of this team. Despite some of the wishful thinking, it seems evident that the Steelers still are a couple of bricks shy in that department. Custom Oakland Raiders Jerseys
  8. earlier than some expected for Pittsburgh Steelers fans. So Womens Jesse James Jersey , with that I’m taking a different approach and starting something I feel may generate some draft talk that isn’t all Steelers related. What I’m hoping to do is every three or four days put an article out in to draft for the that particular team, starting with pick No. 1 — which for now belongs to the Arizona Cardinals. A list of team needs will be taken from various sites around the web (and I may try to involve our sister sites at SB Nation on their needs) and posted in the article. There will also be a poll for voting, where I will list about 8 names for to vote on. There will be an “other” listed as well, and if that is your vote, we ask you put your selection in the comment section below. The prospect that has the most votes will be that selection for the respective team. The list will be updated after each pick has been selected and placed in the next article. With that said the Arizona Cardinals are now on the clock...Arizona CardinalsTeam Needs: OT, EDGE, WR, CB Authentic Jon Bostic Jersey , IOL2018 Draft1 (10 overall) Josh Rosen, qb, UCLA.2 (47) Christian Kirk, wr, Texas A&M.3 (97) Mason Cole, c, Michigan.4 (134) Chase Edmonds, rb , Fordham.6 (182) Chris Campbell, cb, Penn State.7 (254) Korey Cunningham, ot, Cincinnati.Matthew Thomas received reps with the first-team in practice in preparation for the Ravens game Despite a number of standout performances for the Pittsburgh Steelers during the preseason, very little has been seen of Matthew Thomas since he made the opening day roster. Of the 30 snaps the undrafted free agent has seen so far in 2018, all of them have come on special teams. Vince Williams and Jon Bostic have dominated the available time at linebacker, while Morgan Burnett Authentic Bud Dupree Jersey , Terrell Edmunds and Mike Hilton have been the first names off the bench on passing down to replace them. However, with both Burnett and Hilton potentially sidelined in Week 4, it appears the coaching staff might be considering inserting Thomas into the game against the Ravens. After receiving some reps with the first-team in practice during the week, it looks increasingly likely that fans might see the debut of the former Florida State product on defense this Sunday.Pittsburgh had some success in the preseason with a new “Seminoles package” that featured Thomas in the middle and Williams at outside linebacker, and it is possible the coaching staff intends running this scheme against Baltimore. Given his athleticism and range in coverage, he may also be in the running to see some snaps in the nickel and dime packages with key members of the secondary set to miss the game.Considering the Steelers’ struggles defending the pass through the first three games, it cannot hurt to try something different. It is hard to imagine Thomas being much worse in coverage against tight ends that the rest of his teammates have proven to be so far this year. They could certainly use a play like this from him on Sunday night too. Hindsight is 20/20. If we are being honest Youth Artie Burns Jersey , all of us have thought, at one time or another, that if I only knew then what I know now, I would have done somethings differently. That is undeniable because we are only human, destined for both success and failure. Looking back often serves no purpose, only leaves us crying over spilt milk. Better to focus on the future and the things we have control over. However, our mistakes may prove to be our greatest life lessons if we learn from them. After all, those who forget the past are bound to repeat it.The Pittsburgh Steelers seemingly struggle to evaluate defensive talent. Actually that may not be completely fair or accurate. It is probably more accurate to quantify that they have been very hit or miss when selecting first round defensive talent over the last decade. For every clean hit there is a equally impressive swing and miss. For every Cam Heyward , a player worthy of a first round pick, there is a Ziggy Hood. For every TJ Watt and Ryan Shazier, you have a Jarvis Jones and Artie Burns. Then you have a player like Bud Dupree, not a bust by any means, but his performance thus far hasn’t proven worthy of his first round status. So it was easy to understand the concern of so many Steelers fans when the team surprisingly selected a safety out of Virginia Tech with their first round pick this year. Especially a player that was projected to be a second or even third round selection by many of the draft pundits. But the Steelers had the young man much higher on their draft board, and they were more than happy with their selection. They didn’t feel that they had reached in any way to fill a position of need, ala Bud Dupree three seasons prior. They had done their due diligence this time around as an organization. The countless hours by Colbert, Tomlin Cheap Le'Veon Bell Jersey , and company spent away from family and friends was about to pay off. They adhered to the same principles they utilized for the 2017 Draft to great success, and it shows.Terrell Edmunds is already a solid pro, and improving each week. He stated during a bye week interview that the professional game was starting to slow down for him, and it reflects in his on field performance. Forced into the starting lineup sooner than expected due to the lingering groin injury to projected starter Morgan Burnett, Edmunds executed his assignments initially rather cautiously to say the least. An outstanding athlete with impressive playing speed, he appeared to be playing at half speed on most plays. He instead focused on limiting the huge mistakes that so often plague rookie safeties, and worked hard on becoming a reliable contributor. On the plays where he could quickly diagnose his responsibility, his potential was immediately evident and his arrival sudden. Those instances should only occur more frequently with additional experience. Edmunds has done an admirable job as a starter on a improving defense for a playoff contender sporting a three game winning streak at the moment. Not too shabby for a young man rather new to the position , having spent the majority of his college career moving from position to position out of necessity, all the while sacrificing his development for the betterment of the team. This included playing second fiddle to his younger brother Tremaine, who also ended up being a first rounder. Terrell displayed versatility and humility through it all. His college coaches and teammates spoke glowingly about his character. The Steelers got great news during the bye week when Burnett was able to return to practice without issue. What would the Steelers do now that their biggest offseason addition had returned to the fold? They did the right thing, they kept the status quo. Why try to fix what isn’t broken? Edmunds and Davis have developed a nice chemistry at this point of the season and the defense appears to be improving weekly. Burnett is actually in the perfect situation for him. He can work his way slowly into the defense and back into shape. Hopefully fewer snaps will keep him fresh and improve his effectiveness, while also decreasing his chances of further injury.Edmunds is farther along in his development than probably anyone expected at this point of his rookie season. Sure looks like a first round pick to me.Steelers Podcast: Which half will define the Steelers going forward? 10. Pittsburgh Steelers T-Shirt , Jerome Bettis has found himself a popular guest along radio row in Atlanta this week. However, while his experiences with the Los Angeles Rams are among the questions he is being asked, it should come as no surprise to learn that it was his insights about the Pittsburgh Steelers that dominated the conversation.Appearing on a number of shows on Tuesday the included interviews with 93.7 The Fan on the Cook and Joe Show, a sit down with Dave Dameshek of the NFL Network, a segment for First Call on Fox Sports and a conversation with Boomer and Gio on CBS, Bettis was in high demand. But regardless of who he spoke to, the message coming from the Hall of Fame running back was clear and consistent - From ownership through to players, everyone in Pittsburgh was responsible for the situation they found themselves in with Antonio Brown. Some of the highlights from his interview with 93.7 The Fan:Believing the situation was salvageable, Bettis suggested a firm set of rules needs to be put in place that will apply to EVERYONE on the roster. How Brown responds to those rules would then determine his future with the Steelers. Sentiments he would echo when talking to Dameshek:And again with Boomer and Gio:Noting a lack of leadership in locker room since his time in Pittsburgh, Bettis seems to feel that many of the issues on the team started because of the leniency Tomlin showed towards certain players early on in his career. Despite all the issues as he sees them, the former Steelers running back left no doubt that he would like to see Brown remain in Pittsburgh for the rest of his career. Perhaps the most glaring omission from these multiple interviews is the relative lack of mention of Antonio Brown Pittsburgh Steelers Hats , especially when compared to the number of times Tomlin is individually singled out. Effectively characterize the actions of AB as that of a misbehaving given too much freedom, rather than the behavior of a 30-year old man, some fans might question how little Bettis appears to hold Brown culpable for own actions. That being said, he is not wrong in holding the entire franchise responsible for this allowing things to become so dysfunctional, nor is he wrong when he suggests the team needs to set new standards going forward. Whether these are standards Brown is willing to conform to remains to be seen.NFL Picks: Predicting the winner of Steelers vs. Buccaneers, Week 3 It’s Week 3, but it’s safe to say the Pittsburgh Steelers are at a crossroads. Sitting on a pitiful 0-1-1 record, the boys from the ‘burgh head to Tampa to play the red-hot and undefeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. To suggest this is a must-win game, although it might feel like one, is hardly the reality. There are simply too many games left and, as the rest of the Week-3 slate of games proved Pittsburgh Steelers Hoodie , anything can happen in the NFL on any given weekend. But if there was such a thing as a game which felt like a must-win, even this early in the season, it would be this prime-time affair in Florida. This matchup certainly has a lot of facets to it — none more glaring than the Buccaneers’ offense, driven by Ryan Fitzpatrick, going against a Steelers’ defense who, last time they took the field, resembled a sieve more than a respectable, NFL defense. Then you look on the other side of things and you see a Steelers’ offense which has put up enough points to win in both of their first two games, but were only let down by the aforementioned defense. Could there still be improvement in this area? Absolutely, but can you blame an offense that puts up 21 and 37 points but has yet to win a game? While getting off to a good start will be key to the success of the Steelers, putting together a 4-quarter performance is something which hasn’t happened in a long time for Mike Tomlin’s crew. As bad as the Steelers have been during the first two weeks Customized Pittsburgh Steelers Jerseys , I often think about Mike Tomlin as a baseball player. When you watch baseball games, they often show the hitter’s ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ spots on the strike zone. A player who hits low and inside pitches well would show bright red in that area. However, the low and outside pitches might give him fits, so that area would be dark blue. With Tomlin, the road game against a lesser opponent would be the dark blue, but the prime-time game with the team’s back against the wall would be bright red. Given that the Steelers’ offense is playing well and going against a not-so-good defense in Tampa Bay, I find it hard to believe the Pittsburgh defense will duplicate their Week-2 performance in prime time. Not that they’ll shut down Fitzpatrick and company, but put forth a better showing. In other words, I’m not in the camp suggesting the Steelers get crushed in this game. No, I see this game going down to the wire and I’ll leave it to another player who’s had a rough start to the 2018 regular season to win the game. I think the Steelers win in the final seconds thanks to a Chris Boswell field goal. The win would move their record to 1-1-1 and put them right back into the thick of things in the crowded AFC.Prediction:Steelers - 38Buccaneers - 35 Custom Pittsburgh Steelers Jerseys

As this time of year rolls around , and as usual, the Redskins are sitting at home watching meaningful football on their TV’s, talk turns to the NFL Draft. And, as usual this time of year, we have our normal “we need to draft a guard in the first round” club. Skins fans - guess what?...been there, done that. How has our recent record been?...that’s what I thought.Yesterday I wrote a column about why the Skins need to focus on overall team speed this off-season, but in no way, shape of form does that mean we should go another year neglecting the left guard position. It’s more a question of WHEN we should address that position...not IF. There are some potential answers at guard for 2019 staring us right in the face. Arie Kouandjio was, by all accounts Youth Da'Ron Payne Jersey , being counted in to start the season last year at left guard. An unfortunate injury in the spring forced him to injured reserve, and forced the Redskins to look elsewhere for a starting guard.Unfortunately for the team and fans, they decided to turn, yet again, to veteran Shawn Lauvao. The veteran linemen, yet again, got injured and was placed in IR for the season, leaving a massive hole on an otherwise strong unit. The Redskins have two potential starting guards as 2019 free agents in Jonathan Cooper and Arie Kouandjio. Both guys are under 30, and both have the potential to fit into the Redskins offensive scheme. The problem with Copper Youth Jordan Reed Jersey , like Lauvao, is he can’t seem to stay healthy. With Kouandjio, it’s more of a consistency issue. He’s played well at times, but at others, he’s struggled. The best bet would be to re-sign one of the two, and let them compete for a spot in training camp with whoever the Redskins bring in (hopefully) during the draft. And now on to that draft part...There are no clear-cut pure left guard prospects like the Colts Quentin Nelson who will go high in this draft. There are a few linemen worth pick number 15 overall, but none of them are interior guys. There are however, some really good prospects who could be available after the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The Redskins currently hold their own selection in the third round, but will likely get an additional comp pick in the third for losing Kirk Cousins via free agency. Let’s take a look at some potential third round left guard options for the Skins in 2019:*I am not adding any pure centers to my list White Josh Doctson Jersey , but will add some players who can project to either C or G.Beau BenzschawelGWisc.6’6” 315 RD 2 (could he slip to the 3rd?)Martez IveyGFlorida6’5” 306RD 2 (could he slip to the 3rd?)Michael DeiterG/CWisc.6’6” 310RD 2 (could he slip to the 3rd?)Terronne PrescodGN.C State6’5” 334 RD 2-3Ben PowersGOklahoma6’4” 312 RD 2-3Darryl WilliamsGMiss St.6’2” 310 RD 2-3Chris LindstromGB.C.6’3” 310 RD 2-3Conner McGovernG/CPSU6’5” 325 RD 3Garrett BrumfieldGLSU6’2” 303 RD 3Ryan BatesGPSU6’4” 310 RD 3Dru SamiaGOklahoma6’5” 298 RD 3Nate DavisGCharlotte6’2” 310 RD 3Michael JordanG/COhio St.6’6” 310 RD 3-4Derwin GrayGMaryland6’5” 330 RD 3-4Lester CottonGAlabama6’3” 325 RD 3-4Alex BarsGN.D.6’5” 310 RD 3-4Damian PrinceGMaryland6’3” 320 RD 3-4*Note: Some of these projections will change after the Senior Bowl/Combine. There may not be a lot of top-end talent at guard, but as you can see, this draft is loaded in the middle rounds with starting-level players - many of whom can be plug-and-play NFL interior linemen. The Redskins would be wise to use their picks in the first and second rounds to improve their overall team speed on both sides of the ball, and use one of their third round picks on a left guard. Beyond them are three late round or undrafted rookies. That is a pretty thin unit that could get exposed if Norman were to miss any time. 13. The New York Giants placed a great emphasis on their offensive line this past offseason , completely tearing it apart and rebuilding it from the ground up. With new players at every position, what did they look like Friday night against the Detroit Lions in their second game together? The bad newsIt is generally my policy that when I’m faced with a choice between bad news and good news, I’ll choose to start with the bad news to start and finish with the good news. And this, this might have been the ugliest play of the night for the Giants — even if it didn’t hurt them in the grand scheme of things. The Lions are in a nickel package, showing man coverage under a Cover 1 shell. They don’t appear to be showing pressure, and indeed they don’t bring any extra rushers. The Giants come out in their 11-personnel, shotgun set with Evan Engram and Wayne Gallman as the tight end and running back. The Giants keep just five blockers, with Engram and Gallman releasing into routes. This appears to be designed to be a quick-hitting play, but it just doesn’t happen quickly enough. From the left tackle to the center, this play goes as planned. Nate Solder, Will Hernandez, and Jon Halapio combine to effectively handle the right defensive end and three technique. The right side of the line Cheap Jon Halapio Jersey , however, is a mess. Most obvious is Ereck Flowers, who gets beaten by former Giant Devon Kennard. Flowers starts the play well, looking reasonably balanced in his kick slide, with his hands up, not lowering his head and lunging in to contact. However, the play falls apart when he fails to use his punch and deliver a jolt to the much-smaller Kennard. Instead, Kennard uses a long-arm move to get his hands on Flowers first and get under his pads. At this point Flowers seems appears to panic, stopping his feet and lunging, which makes it easy for Kennard to get around him. That might not have been so bad if it weren’t for Patrick Omameh being beaten badly next to him. Omameh loses the hand battle with the defensive tackle across from him almost immediately. He comes up to block him, but never establishes a solid base, playing on his toes and with his feet close together. The defensive tackle was past him in an instant , with a free rush up the middle to Webb.Webb might have been able to step up and away from Kennard if he had a clear pocket in front of him. If so, he might have had the second he needed to find Gallman open in the flat. But instead Webb took a blow to his throwing arm as well as a hard hit from the defensive tackle in his face.A mixed bag run blockingThings get a bit better on this next play. The Giants are faced with a second and short after a 9-yard run by Gallman, and the Giants elect to pick up the last yard the tough way. They line up in their 12-personnel package with Webb under center, with Gallman behind Webb. Once again the Lions are showing man coverage underneath, with a four-man front — though they only use two down linemen. Solder and Hernandez combine to absolutely maul the 3-technique, moving him back nearly five full yards. Engram gets the unenviable task of having to block Ezekiel Ansah. And while Ansah makes the tackle to stop Gallman, Engram did enough for Gallman to pick up the first down and then some.On the right side, Flowers redeems himself some by blocking the left defensive end with some serious authority. Flowers has always been a mauler when turned loose as a run blocker, and in this case he powers his man well away from the play. Omameh does a decent enough job at right guard. He is stymied early, but manages to establish enough leverage to create a bit of push toward the end of the run. He doesn’t open a hole, but does prevent the big defensive tackle from closing it. The player that stands out — and not in a good way — is Halapio. Halapio’s job is to release to the second level and block the middle linebacker, clearing the way for Gallman. Instead Cheap Will Hernandez Jersey , Halapio lets his pad level rise as he hits the linebacker and gets bounced back into the hole himself. With Halapio pushed back into the running lane, Gallman has to slow slightly and adjust his angle, giving Ansah the chance to wrap him up from behind. Had Halapio blocked the linebacker as designed, Gallman’s 3-yard gain might have been more like 5 or 6 yards. The play of the nightFinally we come to what was, almost certainly, the play of the night for the first team offense. Backed up on a third-and-long, Davis Webb, Sterling Shepard, and the offensive line all show up to make a highlight-reel play. The Giants line up in their 11-personnel set, but unlike almost every time they used this in recent years, this time they showed an alignment which essentially guaranteed good releases for their receivers down the field. The Giants draw up their protection scheme well, keeping Engram and Gallman back to pass protect Cheap Eli Manning Jersey , giving them seven blockers to account for the Lions’ four rushers. The Lions do attempt to attack the right side of the Giants’ line with a tackle-end stunt, but Omameh and Flowers pick it up well, with Flowers passing the end off to Omameh, easily picking up the looping tackle and ushering him past the pocket. Keeping seven blockers means that the Giants are trusting three receivers to defeat seven coverage players. And thanks to Shepard’s route running on the post-corner route, the Giants’ alignment making it almost impossible to disrupt his release, and Webb’s great throw, the Giants almost make the play look easy. Final thoughtsWhat conclusions can we draw from the play of the Giants’ first-team offensive line against the Detroit Lions? The biggest conclusion is probably that they are not yet a finished product. Each player had some good plays and some bad plays. While there were some legitimately ugly plays by the offensive line, it is encouraging that they could come together for some highlight plays. Building the chemistry to play well together consistently will take time — if it ever comes. However, fans need to bear in mind that this was only their second start together, with only two of the players having played their position at the NFL position (and only Solder played that position last season). Each of the five members of the Giants’ offensive line have issues to work on, as does the line as a whole. But there are also glimpses of a solid foundation upon which to build.Giants training camp live updates: August 12, 2018 The New York Giants have already played a preseason game. Select veterans have already broken training camp , which basically means leaving the team hotel for the comforts of their own homes or apartments. After Thursday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns, coach Pat Shurmur reminded that “we’re still in training camp, we’re in training camp mode.”The Giants return to the practice field on Sunday at 11 a.m. for the first time since facing the Browns. 14. activity in this nigh madness that is the NFL trade deadline. They traded a 2019 third round pick and a 2020 fifth round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars to secure the services of Dante Fowler. That makes the Rams defensive line Rookie Nick Mullens Jersey , which was already one of the best in the league, even better. It also makes the Rams not only push their chips all in, but take shoes off, dig through couch cushions, pawn the watches, and anything else to add to their all-in plan for 2018. The Rams now have four picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. They have their first, fourth, fifth and sixth round picks. They have Jared Goff on a rookie contract, and given the rate at which rookie deals are increasing, their window to win a Lombardi Trophy is now. Before you go nuts wondering why the San Francisco 49ers didn’t make a trade for Fowler, remember Nick Mullens Jersey , they are 1-7 and that’s Dante Fowler. Fowler is not Jimmy Garoppolo and his (Fowler’s) contract is up at the end of the season. A quarterback and a defensive lineman—especially one like Fowler who comes with question marks—are two completely different scenarios with that contract status. The Rams now will have to dig into the bank once again to pay Fowler some money if they want to keep him around, while bracing for the future huge contract Jared Goff will command. If they decide not to pay Fowler (and given Fowler’s background and slightly disappointing play thus far, they might) they just gave up two more draft picks to win a Super Bowl in 2018. If the 49ers wanted Fowler they probably could make a play for him in free agency, but he might not be worth it. He’ll be a nice commodity, but he also comes with some off-field issues and not living up to the third overall pick of the 2015 draft. The Rams want some more insurance with that defensive line to get their Super Bowl win. The 49ers want to get out of 2018 while mitigating further disaster. If the Rams hold onto Fowler, it’s more salary cap money that is sapped away and it’s two less draft picks for when those cap hits catch up with them. If the Rams don’t win a Super Bowl this year, they just burned more of their future for a guy who might not be around 10 or so games from now. Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski sent New England fans into a panic this offseason when they hinted at retiring rather than returning to the Patriots in 2018.On Sunday, it was the rest of the NFL watching in fear.Brady threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns, hitting Gronkowski for 123 yards and a score to lead the defending AFC champions to a 27-20 victory over the Houston Texans. The reigning NFL MVP found Gronkowski seven times, including a 21-yard touchdown three plays after Deshaun Watson fumbled a handoff at the Texans 19 on Houston's first offensive play ."It's very important that they came out and played the way they did. They're our leaders," said Phillip Dorsett Nick Mullens 49ers Jersey , who had seven catches, including a touchdown. "When they play well, they give an adrenaline boost to the rest of the team."Brady, 41, clashed with the team he's led to five Super Bowl titles in the past year over the treatment of his personal fitness guru and the plans to elevate backup Jimmy Garoppolo to starter. In February, after throwing for 500 yards in a Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Brady was coy about returning this season. The Patriots dangled Gronkowski as trade bait this summer before agreeing instead to sweeten his contract with $4.3 million in reachable incentives. Gronkowski reportedly threatened to retire if traded."I'm just glad to be here, glad to be part of this team, glad to be part of this organization," he said. "All that talk, all that stuff , I would love to put it in the past."Brady also found James White for a touchdown, completing 26 of 39 passes in all; he also had an interception on a pass that was tipped at the line of scrimmage. It was Gronkowski's 31st career regular-season or playoff game of 100 yards or more, tying Tony Gonzalez's NFL record."We've been playing together for a long time," Brady said. "I know his body language. I know his ability to run and what routes. He can do it. He can do really all the routes. It's just a matter of giving him a chance, and it came with a big touchdown today."Watson, who missed the final nine games last season with a torn right ACL, completed 17 of 35 passes for 176 yards, one score and one interception. He struggled to move the team in the first 40 minutes, managing just a pair of field-goal drives before Alfred Blue ran it in from 1 yard to make it 24-13 in the last two minutes of the third period.A muffed punt by New England's Riley McCarron with under five minutes left set up Watson's 5-yard TD pass to Bruce Ellington and cut the deficit to 27-20. But after getting the ball back at their 1 with 43 seconds left, the Texans failed to reach midfield."I think it was terrible, on my part Cheap Jimmy Garoppolo Jersey ," Watson said. "I just feel like you can put the 'L' on me."With Julian Edelman serving a four-game suspension, Dorsett caught seven passes for 66 yards, including a 4-yard TD pass in the closing seconds of the first half to make it 21-6. White had four receptions for 38 yards, including a 12-yard score.Lamar Miller ran 20 times for 98 yards for Houston, which welcomed Watson, defensive lineman J.J. Watt and linebacker Whitney Mercilus back from injuries. Watt had two quarterback hurries, but D.J. Reader had the only two sacks of Brady, both late."It's good to play a full game to know it lasts, to know it holds up," said Watt, a three-time defensive player of the year. "I didn't think about it once. So , that's all you can ask for."It was Watson who felt the pressure the rest of the game. The second-year quarterback, who threw for 301 yards in a 36-33 loss to New England last year in his second NFL start, botched a handoff with Miller in the first quarter, setting up the Patriots up for their first touchdown. In the second quarter, Watson inexplicably chucked the ball into the end zone for a double-covered Vyncint Smith on a second-and-3 from the New England 42.Stephon Gilmore brought it down for the interception.BALL CONTROLThe Patriots also had trouble with turnovers.Brady had an interception in the first quarter on a throw tipped by defensive lineman Angelo Blackson and brought in by Tyrann Mathieu at the Patriots 17. The Texans went backward 7 yards before Ka'imi Fairbairn's 42-yard field goal made it 7-3.Gronkowski also fumbled in the third quarter after a 25-yard reception across the middle. Mathieu recovered, but after advancing to the New England 17, the Texans gave the ball back on downs. The muffed punt by McCarron gave the Texans one last chance.INJURIESTexans: DE Christian Covington injured his thigh in the first quarter. T Seantrel Henderson left after getting his left ankle rolled a few plays later. Kevin Johnson left with what the team said was a concussion and did not return.Patriots: RB Jeremy Hill left with a right knee injury on the Gronkowski fumble in the third quarter.LATE SERIESAfter the Texans forced New England to punt in the final minute, Ryan Allen landed the ball inside the 5-yard line and Jonathan Jones downed it at the 1. Houston advanced to the 16 on a penalty for leading with the helmet and Watson found DeAndre Hopkins for 14 yards before scrambling for 13 more. From his 43 with 5 seconds left, Watson chucked the ball as far as the 10 but it was knocked away.UP NEXTTexans: visit Tennessee Sunday for an early AFC South showdown.Patriots: visit Jacksonville Sunday in a rematch of the Jan. 21 AFC championship game New England won 24-20 to reach the Super Bowl for the third time in four years.

The Cardinals looked set to let Rosen sit behind Sam Bradford learning the ropes, but Bradford was so awful, he earned his first start last week against the Seattle Seahawks. The Cardinals lost, but Rosen performed pretty well. He only completed 55 percent of his passes, but his completion percentage took a hit due to drops. PFF graded his passing near 90 (out of 100) Authentic K'Waun Williams jersey , and his adjusted completion percentage was 72 percent. If Phil Dawson doesn’t miss field goals of 45 and 50 yards, the Cardinals win this game. Of course, Seahawks kicker Sebastian Janikowski missed field goals of 52 and 38 yards, so we can flip that narrative as well. The point being however, Josh Rosen is not the reason this team lost. And he presents a challenge to an inconsistent 49ers defense. They will likely be without Richard Sherman, but Adrian Colbert and Jaquiski Tartt appear on track to return. On Wednesday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks both got a chance to talk about Rosen. Shanahan met with 49ers media for his weekly Wednesday press conference. Shanahan offered up this scouting report on Rosen’s game tape.Wilks spoke with 49ers media for the weekly Wednesday opponent conference call. He talked about the team being close to taking the next step, and cited Rosen doing some “great things” to help the team improve.A rookie quarterback is tough to sort out on a week-to-week basis, but there is one interesting note heading into this game. Last week, the Cardinals faced the Seahawks. This week, he gets the 49ers, which means he faces a similar defense in Robert Saleh’s scheme. There are plenty of differences, but the basic ground-level philosophy is similar. Wilks told 49ers media on Wednesday Youth Joe Staley jersey , “It’s always good when you start talking about a rookie quarterback being able to see some of the same looks.”The 49ers have been very solid against the run for the most part, ranking ninth in DVOA. However, they rank 23rd against the pass, coming in part because of their poor pass rush — which ranks 24th in adjusted sack rate — and in part because of their atrocious third down metrics. They rank in the middle of the pack on third and medium success rate, but they rank 29th in third and long success rate, and 26th in third and short success rate. Third down has killed this defense with regularity, and until they find answers, this is not going to change.A rookie quarterback can bring inconsistency, but Rosen appears like he might be turning into an upgrade over Sam Bradford. Robert Saleh does not bring a lot of blitzes, instead looking for his front four to get pressure. I wonder if the 49ers defensive coordinator tries to shake things up and confuse Rosen in his second career start. The chess match between Robert Saleh and Mike McCoy could make or break this game.
