Fame Gurukul was one of the most popular reality shows on TV back in 2005. The show was in search of its âFame Jodiâ and earned top viewership on Sony channel. It came with a fresh concept and some really great talent was showcased on the show.

We take a look at what these seven contestants from the show have been up to since.

1. Qazi Touqeer

Qazi was perhaps one of the most controversial contestants on the show. He was definitely a very average singer out of the lot, but highly popular nonetheless. Despite many less than thrilling performances, he kept getting the most number of votes. Although he never hid the fact that he aspired to be an actor, Qazi ended up being one of the winners on the show.

However, he seemed to run out of luck post winning this show. Qazi did get to live his filmy dream with Take Off but it never saw the light of the day. He was last heard in the song âAfghan Jalebiâ from Phantom, and reportedly apart from performing in concerts, he has been working on the script of a film that he calls his âdream projectâ.

2. Ruprekha Banerjee

The other half of the âFame Jodiâ, Ruprekha had been a consistently top contestant on the show. Despite not being the most outgoing performer on the show, she made her way to the top by spilling the magic of her voice in every song.

However, apart from her debut album Yeh Pal, she didnât taste much success in terms of a mainstream singing career. She did become a part of shows like Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar and another Bengali show Royal Bengal Super Star on Star Jalsa. Apart from that she has reportedly recorded a number of music albums.

3. Rex DâSouza

Known as the âPerformance Kingâ on the show, Rex was not only a good singer but also an all-rounder when it came to creating a visual impact. Even though he ended up winning the runners-up title, many believed that Rex deserved to win alongside Ruprekha.

Reportedly, post his Fame Gurukul success, he started doing a lot of stage shows in India and abroad. Apparently he has also done playback singing for a few Bollywood films. Currently, he is said to be settled in the US with his girlfriend-turned-wife, Kruti.

4. Arpita Mukherjee

Arpita was another top contestant on the show, with a melodious voice and a pleasing personality. However, she missed her chance to make it to the Top 3 and finished fourth. However, she continued to pursue her career in music post the showâs conclusion.

Arpita has done everything from playback singing for films such as Mubarakhan and Ek Tha Hero, to singing title tracks for various shows such as Balika Vadhu, Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi besides others. She has also recorded songs for various albums and is seen as a judge on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa shows.

5. Sandeep Batraa

Sandeep was a decent performer on the show, and also earned positive comments from the judges, but failed to make it to the top. However, his love for music made him consistently keep pursuing it even after he was eliminated from the show.

Apart from doing stage shows and recording songs, Sandeep also did playback singing for some B-grade films such as Mehbooba and Main Zaroor Aaunga. He has also composed songs for TV shows such as Silsila and even made a movie starring Mahesh Bhatt named The Dark Side of Mumbai City.

6. Arijit Singh

Arijit needs no introduction today. He was one of contestants on the show who showed major potential. It was here that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali first took note of his singing skills, and well the rest as they say is history.

Today he is a leading Bollywood singer who has major blockbusters like âPhir Le Aya Dilâ from Barfi, âTum Hi Hoâ from Aashiqui 2, âKabiraâ and âIlahiâ from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, âAgar Tum Sath Hoâ from Tamasha, âBekhayaliâ from Kabir Singh and many other memorable tracks.

7. Keerthi Sagathia

Keerthi may not have been able to climb up the popularity charts on Fame Gurukul but he did manage to showcase his potential as a singer. Though he was eliminated from the show at a pretty early stage, Keerthi went on to establish himself as a successful playback singer.

Keerthi has done playback singing for numerous Bollywood films such as Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, Daawat-e-Ishq, Fukrey, Satyagrah, Raanjhanaa, Special 26, and Delhi Belly, besides others. He has also been regularly singing songs for Tamil, Telugu and Gujarati films.
