Amazon has decided to join the food delivery market with its own service called Amazon Food. This is something that's been in works for quite some time now, but it looks Amazon thinks this is the right time to do it.

Here are a few things that you need to know about Amazon Food, the latest Zomato, Swiggy rival in India -

1. Delivery Only In Select Locations

Amazon's food delivery service isn't widely available yet. For now, it looks like the service is only available in select places in Bangalore.

According to Amazon, the food delivery service is only available in these pin codes - 560048, 560037, 560066, 560103. As of now, we're not entirely sure when the service will begin in other parts of the country.

2. A Tough Competition

Amazon's food delivery service comes at a time when existing services like Swiggy and Zomato are reducing their workforce to make their ends meet during the on-going coronavirus pandemic.

Amazon is already an established player when it comes to delivery service, so we think Amazon Food will emerge as a serious competition to Swiggy and Zomato, especially now more than ever.

3. A Separate App?

From what it looks like, Amazon Food will be a part of Amazon's main app itself. That being said, we won't be surprised to see a dedicated app for food delivery since this is a huge business by itself and there'll be a lot of restaurant partners on-board. But for now, we'll just have to wait.

4. Highest Standard Of Safety

While confirming the launch of Amazon Food, a spokesperson mentioned that Amazon Food will be adhering to the highest standards of safety to ensure our customers remain safe while getting their food delivered.

Much like Swiggy and Zomato, the food will be coming from restaurants and cloud kitchens that pass Amazon's high hygiene certification bar.

We'll be keeping a track on Amazon Food's availability and update as soon as it becomes available in more regions. For now, if you live in one of the pin codes where the service is available, then be sure to try it out and let us know how it works.
