This App Can Turn Any iPhone Into A Classic iPod And It's All the Nostalgia We Need

We all miss the classic iPod that came with a click wheel which let us browse music on our favourite mp3 player. In fact, it was probably the most fun way to browse music on any mp3 player and made the iPod one of the best selling devices for Apple. An iOS developer is now working on an app that will turn any iPhone into an iPod Classic.

It is being developed by a design student at Cooper Union college in New York City who has been working on the app since last month. He shared a preview of the app on Twitter to show how it turns the iPhone into a fullscreen iPod classic. When navigating using the click wheel, it uses the haptic feedback to simulate the same sensation we used to get while using the iPod Classic and even makes clicking sounds.

Elvin Hu, the developer of the app told The Verge, âIâve always been a fan of Apple products since I was a kid. Before my family could afford one, I would draw the UI layout of the iPhone on lids of Ferrero Rocher boxes. Their products (among other products, such as Windows Vista and Zune HD) have greatly influenced my decision of pursuing design as a career.â

Hu plans to complete the app by the end of the year, however he is not certain whether the app will be approved by Apple to be sold on the App Store. âWhether I can release it or not does depend on whether Apple approves it,â admitted Hu. âI believe they have legitimate reasons not to (patents and other reasons).â

If Apple does block the release, which is likely, then Hu may ârelease it as an open-source project after seeing the response from the community.â

Anyway, if you want to see how it actually works, you can check out the video for yourself below:
