A clean striker of the ball and more than a handy left-arm spinner, Yuvraj Singh shocked everyone after announcing his retirement from international cricket on 10th June. The Indian star has been out of favour in the Indian cricket team for a while and, with age catching up, it was only a question of when, and not if, for Yuvi.
In an emotional press conference in Mumbai, Yuvraj addressed the media and announced: "After 25 years in cricket I've decided to move on. Cricket has given me everything I have. Thank you for being a part of this journey."
“I made some great friends and some not so great friends in cricket over the years. I have never stopped believing in myself...always believe in yourself. This game taught me how to fight, how to fall, to dust off, to get up again and move forward. It has been a lovely journey...see you on the other side," he added.
With almost 12,000 runs including 17 hundreds and 71 fifties across formats for India, Yuvraj's announcement of calling time on his illustrious career that spanned close to 19 years, quite understandably, had cricket bigwigs and fans showering plaudits on the social media.
From his key role in India's iconic win at Lord's in 2002 to the 'Man of the Series' performance in the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj's memorable moments in international cricket found their way on the social media. But, amongst all that, Yuvi's retirement also made England seamer Stuart Broad trend on Twitter.June 10, 2019
Back in 2007, Yuvraj smashed Broad for six consecutive sixes during India's clash against England at the ICC World T20 which was eventually won by India. With Yuvi and MS Dhoni at crease, a heated exchange with Andrew Flintoff an over earlier led to Yuvi's absolute carnage against Broad. Since then, the England pacer has often been trolled on the social media by cricket fans across the globe.
On Monday, the Indian cricket fans once again targeted poor Broad with funny jibes following Yuvraj's retirement from all forms of cricket. Here's are some of the funniest tweets:June 10, 2019
