Chris Gayle: The Jamaican Marauder Reaches 10000 T20 Runs Finally Joins IPL 2017 Party

Ever since the advent of Twenty20 (T20) cricket, no other cricketer has been able to match the powerful hitting of Chris Gayle. Tall and imposing at the crease, Gayle is arguably the most-feared batsman in limited-overs cricket.

Whether it's the mighty pull or a monstrous slog, the Jamaican marauder has no respect for the opposition bowlers. He loves to carve through the covers off either foot, and holds the ability to decimate the figures of even the thriftiest of opening bowlers.

And, when it comes to the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gayle thrives like no other. During the 2013 IPL season, the left-hander broke multiple records with an individual score of 175* off 66 balls and a century in 30 deliveries.

In doing so, Gayle set records for the fastest century reached in any format of cricket, the highest individual score in a T20 match and the most sixes scored in a single innings in the IPL.

But, the ongoing edition of the IPL witnessed a different story. Gayle didn't just struggle to score runs, but was also dropped from the playing XI for the same reason. With Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) losing four out of their five games already, the onus was on big players like Gayle to stand and deliver. And, that's exactly what the West Indies batting sensation did.

Playing against Gujarat Lions (GL) in the 20th Match of the season, Gayle returned to doing what he does best - hit the bowlers out of the park. The RCB opener scored a blistering 38-ball 77, slamming five exquisite fours and seven towering sixes.

He hammered Ravindra Jadeja for 21 runs in the eight over including two consecutive fours and two sixes. During his explosive innings, Gayle also notched up an individual milestone by becoming the first-ever batsman to score 10,000 runs in the shortest version of the game.

Gayle has scored more T20 runs in boundaries alone (7,512 & counting) than every other player other than McCullum (7524) has overall. #IPL

Gayle's return to form was equally cherished by the Bangalore camp who managed to post a mammoth total of 213 runs against Gujarat.

This is the 47th time Gayle has scored 75 or more in a T20 match. No other player has done it even 20 times; Kohli (19) is next. #GLvRCB
