The currency demonetization move has not only hit the Indian economy but the wedding industry as well, with people going berserk over managing the expenses. In fact, recently it was reported that one could now withdraw up to Rs. 2.5 lakh cash from bank accounts of a bride, groom or their parents for the wedding.
Although this move was much appreciated but given the ‘big-fat-weddings’ we organize, this amount will not suffice. But, as they say, where there is a will, there is a way, and this Surat-based couple has proved it yet again by setting a great example that the country needs to learn from. While there are people who have lavish Rs. 500-crore weddings without thinking twice about the miseries that other people are going through, this couple organized their entire wedding ceremony in just Rs. 500.
After the sudden announcement of discontinuation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 rupee notes, this couple, instead of cribbing, tweaked their plan and went ahead with the date that was fixed for the wedding. The bride did admit that initially both the families were tensed about the announcement but after considering the situation, they chose to serve ‘Chai Paani’ to the wedding guests.
To be honest, the fancy arrangements in weddings are more of a show-off than a necessity and this couple just proved that grandeur isn’t everything; sometimes, a simple ceremony is all it takes to enter a prosperous married life.
