While the Indian cricket team was struggling to stay afloat in the second innings of the Sydney Test after the dismissals of Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara, the country turned to middle-order batsmen Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin with the hopes of not losing the match.

While Ashwin was dealing with his own set of health issues and injuries,  Vihari, who was in visible discomfort at the very beginning of his innings, was seen with bandages wrapped around his thigh as his hamstring had completely given up. Every step he took was visibly painful.

Kudos to #TeamIndia for the resilient spirit shown at the #SydneyTest.

It was clear that he was in no shape to keep playing, but instead of going back to the dressing room and pushing off the responsibility of surviving the dangerous Australian bowling attack over the heads of an injured Ravindra Jadeja (dislocated left thumb) followed by inexperienced lower-order batsmen, he stuck to the crease, defiantly defending one ball after another.

There was a time when Vihari had scored just six runs off 100 deliveries. Those who understood the game and understood the situation, lauded the batsman’s determination and patience to keep his painful innings alive.

While others like Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Babul Supriyo felt it was a 'complete waste of time' and that Vihari had in fact 'murdered' the game of cricket.

Playing 109 balls to score 7 !That is atrocious to say the least•Hanuma Bihari has not only killed any Chance for India to achieve a historic win but has also murdered Cricket.. not keeping win an option, even if remotely, is criminal.
PS: I know that I know nothing abt cricket

Admitting to the fact that he knows nothing of cricket, Supriyo didn’t even care about writing the correct spelling of the cricketer’s name and instead went on a baseless rant.

Credit to the class of Vihari who replied to the tweet with just two words, that won the internet through and through.

*Hanuma Vihari

Instead of getting in a war of words and explaining why he did what he did, Vihari simply corrected the spelling of his name in the reply and that was more than enough for his followers to go head over heels for him.

Here’s who some of the fans reacted:
