WhatsApp's recent update to its privacy policy has fueled a lot of conversation around privacy in messaging apps.

A huge chunk of people seem to have now decided to ditch WhatsApp despite the company's effort to give more clarifications on their new privacy policy.

Interestingly, Signal has seen a meteoric rise in the number of downloads over the past couple of days.

In fact, Signal has reached a point at which it's seeing upwards of 1M downloads on the daily, a number that seemed almost impossible for the app in the initial days.

Signal, for those of you who don't know, is run by a non-profit, and its co-founder, Brian Acton was also one of the founders of WhatsApp.

Acton largely talked about the gargantuan growth of the app in the last couple of days. He says they are ready to handle the growth and are now increasing the number of servers to deal with the influx of traffic. He also emphasized how Signal is all about user privacy.

Privacy is at the core of Signal and Acton is glad that people are now having more conversations about privacy. Speaking of the Indian market and the India-specific feature, he said the app already supports 12 different languages including Hindi.

He recently spoke to the folks over at Gadgets360 to discuss how he sees India as a huge market for the app and what kind of features we can expect.

Signal is apparently getting a lot of feature requests from India, meaning a lot of people are now actively using it. Acton thinks India is a strong representation of the world and he said: "if you build for India you build for the world."

Signal is already a feature-rich app and it already has a lot of WhatsApp features

If you are looking to switch from WhatsApp, then Signal is a really good place to start.
