Unsung Heroes: Indian Sportsmen Who're Manning Roads & Fulfilling Their Cop Duties Amid COVID-19

There are many reasons why a person picks up a sport and eventually, decides to make it a career choice. Some do it for the glitz and glamour it brings, others decide to become sportspersons for the money and a stable job. Few do it for the sheer love of it and, fewer look at it as a way of serving the country. The ones who fall in the latter category are a breed apart.
For them, money and fame are secondary. They're just happy to contribute to their nation's growth and success in any manner possible. At the forefront of pursuing glory for the nation, these athletes, celebrated as heroes, put their bodies on the line, risk injuries and their well-being. And when they call time on their career, no one cares to know where they went or what they're up to.  While they no longer seem to garner public attention as they did in their playing days, these Indian sports stars still continue to contribute to the country in their own ways.  The stories of World T20-winning cricketer Joginder Sharma, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Akhil Kumar and Asian Games champion kabaddi player Ajay Thakur are somewhat similar.  2007: #T20WorldCup hero ??
2020: Real world hero ??

In his post-cricket career as a policeman, India's Joginder Sharma is among those doing their bit amid a global health crisis.

[?? Joginder Sharma] pic.twitter.com/2IAAyjX3Se â ICC (@ICC) March 28, 2020 The Indian trio made the country proud with their respective achievements during their playing days. Owing to their success on the field, they were offered full-time jobs in the state police departments to commemorate them for their achievements. For sportspersons whose careers are over, the trio has once garnered limelight. Once again, for serving their nation.  The three veteran sports stars, working in the capacity of full-time police officers, are once again at the forefront, this time fulfilling their duties amid the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.  This is the story of five Indian sports icons who, despite their retirement, continue to serve the country and its people in times of great crisis.  1. Joginder Sharma  View this post on InstagramPrevention is the only cure for Coronavirus,Letâs be together and fight with this Pandemic situation..Please cooperate with us ð®ð³Jai Hindð®ð³A post shared by (@jogi23sharma) At the first mention of his name, Joginder Sharma brings the memories of the last over he bowled during India's five-run win over Pakistan in the 2007 World T20 final in Johannesburg. He was the man who had turned the tide in favour of Team India by dismissing Misbah-ul-Haq on the third delivery of the final over.  While he was never seen on the international circuit again, Sharma was offered a government job for his sporting achievements. Ever since taking up the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) with Haryana Police, Sharma has been serving the country in his role. And, more recently, he was seen manning the streets during the ongoing nationwide lockdown to contain COVID-19.  âI have been a DSP since 2007. This is a one-of-a-kind challenge for me as a police officer because of the general fear and I can tell you that I have seen quite a few challenges in my years of service. Our duty time starts around 6 am and we do patrolling, making people aware, send those who are out for fun to their homes, help those in need of essentials or medical aid and take action against those who try to defy without any good reason," Sharma told PTI.  2. Akhil Kumar  View this post on Instagramâªà¤à¤¾à¤¨à¤µà¤° à¤à¤¦à¤®à¥ फ़रिशà¥à¤¤à¤¾ à¤à¤¼à¥à¤¦à¤¾â¬ âªà¤à¤¦à¤®à¥ à¤à¥ हà¥à¤ सà¥à¤à¤¡à¤¼à¥à¤ à¤à¤¼à¤¿à¤¸à¥à¤®à¥à¤...⬠âª....⬠âªðð»ðð»â¬ âª#AKhiladi â¬A post shared by (@akhilkumarboxer) Long before the likes of Vijender Singh and Shiva Thapa came to fore, Akhil Kumar was the undisputed poster boy of Indian boxing. Mesmerising everyone with his unique 'open guarded style' of boxing, Kumar is best known for his daunting run at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, where he bagged a gold medal. Long after his retirement from boxing, Kumar is proving to be just as effective away from the ring.  Serving with the Gurugram Police as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) since September last year, Kumar chose to work on his 39th birthday on 27th March. "People are generally cooperative and in any case, essential services are being kept open so there is not much panic. I believe only strict enforcement of lockdown will be able to halt this virus. People are slowly understanding this," Kumar told PTI.  Apart from patrolling the roads and persuading people to stay indoors, Kumar has also been pooling money with his colleagues to buy essential food items and sanitizers for the underprivileged. 3. New OnePlus 8 Series Phones Are Coming Very Soon & They'll Come In These Stunning New Colours

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected a lot of businesses in more ways than one. Smartphone makers, among many other manufacturers, are also having a hard time, both manufacturing and selling new devices. To that effect, OnePlus, which was set to introduce its new phones, had to delay the launch because of the on-going pandemic. However, the CEO of the company has now confirmed that the new phones will be launched very soon and won't be delayed further due to COVID-19. © Winfuture OnePlus CEO Pete Lau tweeted out saying how difficult it has been for the company to delay the launch multiple times already. He noted that the launch date will not get pushed any further and they're ready to move forward.

OnePlus Smartphones Will Finally Be Getting Always-On Display After Years Of Requests

OnePlus has officially confirmed that an always-on display setting is finally coming to OxygenOS via an update soon. The always-on display setting has been a highly requested feature by fans for years and the decision comes after fans voted in favour of the feature to be included in a future OxygenOS update.  The news was officially confirmed on their Twitter account  and fans reacted to the fantastic news with relief. The feature has been requested since the launch of the OnePlus 6, 6T, however the company always shied away from bringing the feature citing battery drain issues.  © Gearbest The feat has been tested internally and has been added to the roadmap of future updates as confirmed by OnePlusâ Gary C. in the OnePlus community forums. He posted â3/27 Update: Hi everyone, an update on this IDEA. Initial power consumption tests have been passed and it is now on our roadmap! We are working on fine-tuning AOD to make sure it is perfectly optimised. Do keep an eye on our Community as we will keep everyone in the loop with further updates, including the release timeline. Thanks!â
Currently, it is not clear which OnePlus devices will be getting the update, however any smartphone with an AMOLED display should be getting this feature. It is probable that the feature will need to be activated manually from the settings and will probably also drain a bit more battery than usual. There is a good chance that the battery life might be reduced by 2 hours on average.  © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla âWe ran some tests on the viability of this feature and found out that AOD could roughly consume about 350-500mAh of the battery, which means you might get one or two hours deducted from your daily usage. Such a battery drainage issue will have a notorious impact on digital natives. This could lead to substandard performances, which makes us more careful about this decision.â
A stable release for the update is still far out as it will first be rolled to OxygenOS Open Beta users. Once beta testers have ironed out problems, the new feature could be included in the stable update that will be rolled out for devices. While an Always-On display feature is a staple on most phones with AMOLED displays, OnePlus has taken their time to bring the feature for their devices. It would be interesting to see how OnePlus implements the feature and whether it would impact the battery drastically on their phones.

More People Have Died Because Of The Lockdown Than The Coronavirus & It's Heartbreaking

It's honestly time for all of us to realise our privilege and how lucky we actually have gotten during this pandemic. We can self-quarantine comfortably in our homes and somewhat still have financial sustainability right now and even after this is over. So many, actually way too many,  people are not as lucky. I'm talking about the daily wage workers, the migrant workers, the workers who not only lost their only source of earning because of coronavirus and the lockdown but were also left stranded hundreds of kilometres away from their homes. © Reuters Because of no notice about the lockdown, a lot of these workers who were in major cities, most of them away from their families, working and trying to earn a living were left with no way to get back to their homes, their villages.
We've all seen the heartbreaking pictures of thousands of people enduring a long journey on foot without any money or food and felt helpless because there's really nothing we can do to help them. I'm really not trying to call out the government but I think everyone can agree that this should have been handled better by the authorities. Everyone knew this was inevitable and it's disappointing that the government failed such a huge chunk of the citizens of India during this already stressful time. Us privileged lot could make do with the four-hour notice of lockdown but what about these people? What's the point of shutting down all forms of transportation before everyone was back to the safety of their homes to self-quarantine? © Reuters The worst part is reading reports of how so many people have already lost their lives, not because of the deadly virus this lockdown is trying to fight, but the repercussions of the lockdown itself which could have easily been avoided with better planning.
Someone on Twitter shared a thread of all the people who have lost their lives while trying to travel back home or just because of police brutality and there needs to be some accountability. 1. A 39-year-old man, a home delivery boy for a private restaurant in Delhi & was the father of three, died in Agra after walking for about 200 kilometers: https://t.co/cRoIaSeMpr â Kanika (@_kanikas_) March 29, 2020Why weren't there better provisions?
2. Three workers and two children, heading home on foot crushed to death in Haryana: https://t.co/AIrVgoVutw â Kanika (@_kanikas_) March 29, 2020A baby! A one and a half year old baby!
3. Seven migrants workers and 18-month old baby returning home after lockdown killed in a road accident in Hyderabad: https://t.co/qsct4JTgUT â Kanika (@_kanikas_) March 29, 2020Think about this when you're hoarding food.
4. 11-year-old Rahul Musahar died of hunger yesterday when Jawahar Tola in Bhojpur, Biharhttps://t.co/NZw4AeB1HE â Kanika (@_kanikas_) March 29, 2020Will they get justice?
5. Four migrants, walking back to their village in Rajasthan, run over in Mumbai https://t.co/NrclYq8l8V â Kanika (@_kanikas_) March 29, 2020Even the elderly aren't spared.
6. 62-year-old dies after walking home from hospital in Surat:https://t.co/3bFjKZCu2u â Kanika (@_kanikas_) March 29, 2020But I thought PM Modi said going out to get essentials is allowed. Is the police not even listening to the prime minister of our country?
7. The 32-year-old man stepped out of his house to buy milk during the lockdown in Kolkata. The family says he was beaten up by the police. A local hospital declared him brought dead.https://t.co/P1symrpj7J â Kanika (@_kanikas_) March 29, 2020What was their fault?
Four TN workers, who had to take a forest path after State borders were closed, die in forest fire:https://t.co/C8InW9K7ff â gopu mohan (@gm_madras) March 29, 2020Turns out, you don't need to be infected with the virus to die during this pandemic.
Thank you for compiling this. I have heard a pregnant lady from Kasargod was not allowed to cross into Managalore, Karnataka and died. Another man seeking tertiary treatment outside of Kerala also died due to Karnataka sealing all roads. Both were not #covid infected. â Leo Saldanha (@leofsaldanha) March 29, 2020Someone needs to be held responsible for these deaths and I think we all know who those people are. I really hope no one else loses their life over completely avoidable situations and I really hope the government gets some compassion and help the people, all the people.

Akshay Kumar Becomes Everyone's Real Life Hero By Donating Rs 25 Cr To PM's Corona Relief Fund

There was something I read yesterday that has been proven true over and over again. The internet can collectively troll Akshay Kumar and even bully him into leaving behind his Canadian citizenship, but his love for India doesn't end with his movies. He has, on many occasions, gone above and beyond to help the people of the country and that is actually a commendable thing. While so many Bollywood celebrities are making TikToks instead of contributing in a way that needed, Akshay Kumar alone has decided to donate Rs 25 crores to help the people of the country who have lost everything during this pandemic. Replying to PM Modi's tweet about how anyone who wants to help can contribute to the PM-Cares fund, he made the announcement about his generous donation because jaan hai toh jahaan hai. This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores from my savings to @narendramodi jiâs PM-CARES Fund. Letâs save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai. ð» https://t.co/dKbxiLXFLS â Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) March 28, 2020 Not to sound pessimistic or anything, I just really hope this money reaches to the people for whom it is intended for, that's extremely important, especially right now. Even Modiji is impressed with Akshay Kumar. Great gesture @akshaykumar.

Letâs keep donating for a healthier India. https://t.co/3KAqzgRFOW â Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) March 28, 2020 That is so heartwarming, not gonna lie. The man makes me proud. When I asked him if he was sure as it was such a massive amount and we needed to liquidate funds, he just said, â I had nothing when I started and now that I am in this position, how can I hold back from doing whatever I can for those who have nothing.â https://t.co/R9hEin8KF1 â Twinkle Khanna (@mrsfunnybones) March 28, 2020 He is. After this you are my real life hero! Respect and respect only ð¾ @akshaykumar https://t.co/3NdRkRxH7g â hardik pandya (@hardikpandya7) March 28, 2020 Do something! How much have the Khan trio given? https://t.co/TwKWRxnOtp â Shefali Vaidya. (@ShefVaidya) March 28, 2020 KRK approved. John Cena Shares How WWE Was Ready To Fire Him & How He Started Rapping To Save His Career

If Dwayne Johnson was the face of the WWE during the 'Attitude Era', then John Cena was the posterboy for the company when they decided to become more kid friendly and move away from all the blood and gore, although he did make his debut amidst all of it. He dominated as the main man of the business for over a decade, promoted the WWE not only in the USA but also internationally. Hell, he even learned Mandarin to share a cultural bond with his Chinese following when he would visit the country for work.  His words, 'Hustle, Loyalty, Respect' have sold millions and millions of t-shirts, wristbands and all the other merchandise WWE wanted to sell and turned more and more people, especially young kids into wrestling fans who would grow into becoming a dedicated part of the so called WWE Universe. Essentially, hiring John Cena was one of the biggest, most successful investments the WWE made in the 21st century.  © Reuters However, the deal would not have worked in favour of either side had Vince McMahon released Cena in November 2002 after he struggled to make a sustainable impression amongst the spectators with his 'Ruthless Aggression' storyline. In a video shared by the WWE, Cena candidly shares the series of events that led to him adapting the 'Doctor of Thuganomics' gimmick and never looked back ever since. “The WWE used to make a series of cuts around late November and around mid May,” says the 13-time WWE champion. “I was told that I would be getting my release in the Christmas cuts because it just wasn't working. “They gave it to me on a silver platter, 'John Cena - Ruthless Aggression' and I failed, I messed it up. “It was my last European tour and I think I was in a mixed tag match - this is how well it did not go,” he remembers. “I think I was just there to maybe have just one last time in the ring but I was on my way out. “We travel as a community and in the same bus and in the back I could hear a bunch of guys, Rikishi and Rey Mysterio, leading the charge and they were all freestyling just to pass the time,” Cena recalls. “It was a long bus ride… and I just dove right in.” “It (rapping) resonated with me.” On paper, the idea of walking into the ring with a massive medallion hanging low from his neck, a cap turned backwards and uncanny hand signs on his way, yeah, nobody would have thought that this gimmick would have worked out for anybody but for some odd reason it did and it trampolined Cena to the superstardom that he now enjoys.  I am sure it had something to do with luck but the man deserves all the credit in the world to work for himself with his back against the wall and make it big.

Now Is The Perfect Time To Get Rid Of Your Annoying Acne At Home & These 5 Steps Will Help

As social distancing has become a common affair for us for the past few weeks now due to the Coronavirus outbreak, we are constantly hunting for ways to kill the boredom. During such a time period, if you are someone whose skin is prone to annoying pimples, we completely understand how this lockdown must have affected your routine.  But, if you are starting to go crazy with the breakouts and want to control it while you are home, now is the perfect time to do so.  Armed with handy tips, this is how you should go about getting rid of your acne:  1. Do CTM © iStock Living with pimples can be really annoying and painful. Since you are self-quarantining and so is your dermatologist, there's actually an easy way to go about this.
Start with the basics. Stick to a CTM ritual, which is cleansing, toning and moisturising at home. Wash your face with a cleanser and then ask your mom for some rose water. Apply some moisturiser as it will help lock your skin away from dirt and grime. This is how you start. 2. Exfoliate Three Times A Week © iStock The beads in a scrub can help you get rid of debris and dirt and give a deeper cleanse to your skin. Scrubbing also reduces the chances of more pimples and clogged pores. But since it is a deep cleansing method, it should be done once a week.
If you don't have a scrub at home, make good use of coffee and honey to scrub your face. Try it out. 3. Control Oily Skin With A Face Mask © iStock A face mask made with natural ingredients is a way to control the excess oil that wrecks havoc on your skin. A face mask will help keep your skin soft and supple.
Also, it will help you kill some time and also make you feel better whilst letting you have a breakout-free skin. 4. Use A Face Gel © iStock To prevent and eliminate acne, applying face gel and going to sleep while it does wonders for your skin, is something that should add to your routine, amid social distancing.
This method is less aggressive as the gel stays on your skin and controls redness and skin irritation. One of the best remedies to date is aloe vera gel. So if you do own a plant, good luck and if you don't, you still have other remedies to try. 5. Popping Your Pimples  © iStock Self quarantining is probably the best time for all overthinkers out there right now. Given that there's a tendency to touch things more than usual and since pimples are really tempting to do so, your hands are bound to reach out for them. Stop that then and there, as the more you trigger it, the chances of scarring will be higher.
Also, don't forget the Coronavirus rules and wash your hands.

4 Tumultuous Times When The Olympic Games Should Have Been Cancelled, But Weren't

From Copa America, Euros, Tokyo Olympics to T20 World Cup, the year 2020 was earmarked for its promise of bringing the iconic sporting events to the fore. But, despite all the necessary preparations, the sports industry and fans have been handed a major blow by the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
With 5,40,828 confirmed cases and 24,293 deaths so far, the fast-spreading virus has become a major threat to mankind. With travel restrictions, quarantine camps and curfews all around, the fast-spreading virus continues to heckle normalcy and traumatise people across the globe. The sporting world isn't alienated to the repercussions of the scary epidemic either.  Whether it's the NBA season, IPL or football leagues across the globe, all have been suspended as the world continues to combat the epidemic. Amongst the most-anticipated sporting events this year, the likes of Euros and Copa America have already been pushed back by a year. And, after much deliberation, even the Tokyo Olympics recently took a hit.  On 24 March, the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) announced the postponement of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.https://t.co/qej1CZzpzI â IOC MEDIA (@iocmedia) March 25, 2020A detailed discussion between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Japanese government led to the decision of cancelling this year's Tokyo Games, which have been rescheduled for the summer of 2021. The IOC in its statement claimed that the Games will be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020, but no later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes and everyone involved in the Olympics.
The decision, which took a while, has been hailed by all given the situation at hand. But, it isn't the first time the Games have been disrupted.  Since the opening of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, the mega event has been cancelled on three occasions: once during World War I (1916) and twice during World War II (1940, 1944). The COVID-19 outbreak marks another rare occasion when the Games have been rescheduled.  However, the rich Olympic history has witnessed numerous sad world events which should have ideally led to the cancellation of the Games, but, unfortunately, it didn't. Here's a look at those rare moments of history: 1936 Games In Germany © Reuters Germany was supposed to host the 1916 Olympics and had even built an impressive 30,000-seat stadium in Berlin for the sporting spectacle. But, with the outbreak of war in 1914, the 1916 Games were cancelled. Four years later, the Games, hosted by Belgium, became the first of its kind where a country's invitation was withdrawn.
Blamed for staring World War I, the German contingent was not only banned from the 1920 Games, but also from the 1924 Olympics. It was in 1936 when Germany finally got an opportunity to host the Olympics, this time under the Nazi flag. Despite calls of boycott amid a Nazi regime intent on using sport for Adolf Hitler's propaganda including the theories of racial superiority, the 1936 Berlin Games were allowed to go on. 1968 Games In Mexico  © Reuters Since its inception in 1894, the IOC has laid claims to being an apolitical and neutral body with the mission to promote international peace and understanding through sport. But, the international body has found itself in a bit of trouble every now and then by turning a blind eye to catastrophic events in order to ensure the Games go on. And, the 1968 Olympics in Mexico is a prime example.
Ten days before the opening of Summer Games in Mexico City, the government forces gunned down an undetermined number of university and high school students who had gathered in the Tlatelolco section to protest against Gustavo Diaz Ordaz's ruling party. But, despite the human rights violation caused by the ruling government's extreme use of forces to suppress political opposition, the IOC didn't make sound and the Games went on. 1972 Games In Germany  © Reuters If the beforementioned instances don't make you cringe, the fact that even the darkest chapter of Olympic history couldn't stop the Games would surely get you riled up. The tensions between Israel and Palestine found its international spotlight in 1972. An armed group of Palestinian terrorists attacked the Israeli compound at the Olympic Village in Munich.
Two Israeli athletes were killed in the attack and another nine were being held hostage by the terrorists. A standoff ensued which eventually led to the sad demise of all nine remaining Israeli athletes as the entire world watched from the sidelines. It remains one of the biggest tragedies in the history of Olympics, but, frustratingly, the death of 11 Israeli athletes during the event wasn't enough to cancel the Games. After a two-day suspension, the Munich Games went on as if nothing happened. 1996 Games In USA  © Reuters The Summer Olympics, also referred to as the Centennial Olympic Games, came to Georgia's capital Atlanta in 1996. The Games began with a cheerful ceremony on 19th July and continued to enthral the spectators. But, on 27th July, Eric Rudolph, a convicted American terrorist, planted three pipe bombs at the Centennial Olympic Park.
Despite receiving a tip and arriving on the scene early, the bomb squad was moments away from investigating the suspicious package when the bombs detonated just minutes into the evacuation of the general public. The blast directly killed 2 persons, another one later died of a heart attack and injured 111 others.  A few hours later, Billy Payne, the president of the Atlanta organizing committee said: "The spirit of the Olympic movement mandates that we continue". On the other hand, Olympic officials, citing the example of the 1972 Munich Games, claimed that the 17-day competition will continue.

Lockdown Survey: How Men & Women Are Sharing The Load At Home Amid Coronavirus Quarantine

From traffic jams to roads being empty, the entire paradigm of how we used to see our lives on a daily basis has changed, owing to the Coronavirus outbreak. Everything has come to a standstill and after PM Narendra Modi announced 'Janta-Curfew', then lockdown, we have no option but to stay back at our homes. For most of staying in urban sectors,  we are used to taking support from domestic help (you can bash me for sure) and now, things have changed as there's no domestic help at all.  I belong to a family where there are no gender disparities when it comes to sharing household chores but then this is not the case with ever family obviously. Some families still sadly follow redundant patriarchal rules where a woman is expected to take care and serve the household. Considering the situation we are in, it's for both men and women to take up the responsibilities of their homes and divide among themselves, equally. I decided to conduct a survey on Facebook wherein I asked if men have stepped in to share responsibilities considering the fact that both men and women are equally involved in taking the charge of their homes. © Facebook/Apoorva Nijhara I asked both men and women to engage in a conversation and tell me how they are managing during this lockdown. I wasn't sure if people would be even responding but on the contrary, I got more than 500 responses in less than a day. So I have picked up a few as I couldn't mention all of them and I am also keeping their accounts, intact, as they sent me. A few women came forward and appreciated that men in their families have actually stepped up in terms of taking responsibilities and have even mentioned that they have started to empathize with them even more. Sharing a few accounts here: Arpita Ashara Sood My dad has become the true hero of the house. I live with my husband, in-laws, and kids and stay just 8kms away from my parents' house but because of lockdown, I haven't been able to visit my parents. My mother has cancer and can only do things in her restricted capacity. Well, my father has taken the charge completely in the absence of domestic help and is doing all household chores. He is cleaning the house, cooking, and even helping bathe my mom who requires assistance as she has health complications. With no maids or assistance at the age of 69, my father is doing a lot and has gone beyond his comfort zone. He has his own medical complications including high BP and arthritis. I am unable to help them due to the lockdown but I really appreciate what he is doing for my mother. © Arpita Sood Anjana Anand Yes, my man is helping totally in spirit. He is working overtime from home because being a Finance guy- Closing month.  However, for his coffee breaks, he takes Colin and makes sure he cleans at least two surfaces. Makes his coffee by himself, goes for essentials shopping (he rarely does that). Most important, he is suddenly so compassionate and non-demanding. Shruti Hrishikesh Bhattacharya First of all, I would like to thank you for this initiative. In the morning he helps me with making breakfast, like chopping and all.. then doing breakfast together is the happiest part as we didn't get time in the office days. Secondly, we clean the house together, he brooms the house and I mop. I make the lunch and he washes the utensils. While I prepare lunch, he downloads the movie that we can watch together. After this, he makes tea in the evening and I make dinner. So, we have equally shared the responsibilities. Deepali Shukla My hubby has been leading the way for us to keep the house clean. He has to work from home and ensure BCP for his company works flawlessly. He washes utensils while taking calls. I am the cook and he is the cleaner of the house for now. He believes nothing is big or small. It's not only now with lockdown but before too, he has always stood up and helped with household chores. He just needs a nudge sometimes. Aastha Ratra My husband has never done anything around the house primarily because there have been house helps always, now he is washing utensils, brooming, mopping, cooking and whatnot. It's amazing to see your husband transform into a true partner when it matters. Even children are contributing to each and every task in the house. I hope it's just not the initial excitement. There's a long road ahead. Tanu Ahuja I don't think men in my family have hesitated in helping me with around the house. From bed tea to loading the washing machine, to staking the dishwasher, mopping, sweeping, dusting, cooking... we finish it all together and retire to our rooms... To attend our virtual offices and school assignments. I think together we are more sorted than ever before. Both my son and my husband have been sharing responsibilities with me equally. © Tanu Ahuja © Tanu Ahuja Vandana Singh My husband claims that he now knows the difference between moong daal and masoor daal, how clothes need to be folded after ironing, how much soap is enough for utensils- better than me!!!! I'm not complaining... sitting back with my coffee and letting him enjoy his moments of fame. Then, there were a few men who messaged me saying that they have been proactive and also reinforced the message of equality. Here are a few responses that I got from men:  Mohit Vats I never did household chores ever in my life but doing it now .. learning new skills every day and enjoying it but one thing is for sure whenever my maid comes back, I'll bow down to her as it's not easy what she does. Rajat Grover I am really enjoying this time of lockdown. just because I am able to help my family - my mom and my wife in the daily chores of the home. Cleaning utensils in Kitchen Or Brooming & Mopping, Washing Clothes, etc are almost Equally challenging for my Wife as for Me. So we are taking it Bang On together !!! Debasish Roy I grab every opportunity to work around the house. It's my house too, so it's my job too. Of course, I take my wife's permission before I do anything around the house because she is the manager in-charge and masterminds everything. She has a schedule and I don't want to interrupt that. My work forces me to travel so every hour spent with my family and participating in household work is a blessing for me. Then, there was one response from Rahul Shobhana Banerjee that indeed challenged every tiny bit of the stereotypes our society has. He shared, “We all have a story we are proud of and here is the one which I wanted to share for a long time. Born in a middle-class family, I and my wife have always been surrounded by judgments, benchmarks and the pool of expectations. We both coming together was a choice itself but quite challenging as I and my wife have an age difference of 5 years. You must be thinking its normal, right? I was talking about my wife being 5 years older to me which had raised many eyebrows like it does when they come across the fact that I am the “ Man at the kitchen “ my world revolved around my kitchen and art of culinary, wherein every moment my partner has been the biggest critic and connoisseur of my passion and my wife is the “Wo-Man of the house” who runs the house and calls the shots. But life has never been more blessed as we know we are true to what we are best at and to each other. Even in the lockdown, we are like the pillar of strength for each other.” But then, there were responses that did shatter me wherein women said that they aren't getting relief as men in their houses aren't ready to share responsibilities. Sapna Patheja I think my husband is the only one who is not helping at all.....I don't have a maid now so doing cleaning utensils cooking all on my own....have two kids and the school has started sending work online so taking out time to teach them also as no tutors while my husband is on mobile in front of the tv on bed whole day.....For the first time, I asked him to help in utensils as my son was getting confused in a maths question and was calling me again and again but was refused clearly. Karishma Shroff She shared a meme wherein she has shown how some men are during the lockdown. © Karishma Shroff After reading all the responses, I, in fact, felt sad seeing how women are thanking men for helping them during the lockdown as this shouldn't be just restricted to this very period. Household chores should be divided equally anyway. I was also happy to see men accepting that they have been sharing responsibilities and understanding the real meaning of equality. I also want to call to those men who are still not sharing responsibilities thinking the household chores are only done by women. It's time that we contribute equally and not let one gender take the entire pressure. It's time that we become the in Ki and Ka in real lives where gender roles are not specified.

How To Take A Virtual Vacation & Travel The World From Your Couch With Google Earth & Street View

Coronavirus has forced a lot of countries to close their borders, preventing anybody to enter. Needless to say, a lot of countries are under lockdown, which means people can't really leave their homes unless it's an emergency. If you had a vacation planned during the next couple of months, it's quite unfortunate because it's definitely not happening. But we all can use a vacation, which is why I thought I'd tell how you can take a virtual vacation & travel the world from your couch. Google Street View In order to use Google's Street View, you don't even have to install anything else on your phone. I am sure we all have Google Maps on our phones that is unless you've been living under a rock. Anyway, simply open Google Maps and type a location that you'd wish to take a stroll through. © MensXP Now, just tap the on the layer button on the top right below the search bar and enable the Street View layer. Now, you'll see a blue line on any street that's available with first-person navigation. You can just tap on the blue line and enter the Street View mode. Yes, it's not as good as walking the streets by yourself, but the Street View feature is the closest thing to taking a stroll around, say, the Eiffel tower. Enjoy 360 View From Inside A Particular Building Not all the places are tracked by Google's Street View cars. So if you don't find a particular location marked by the blue lines on Google Maps, then we suggest you download Google's dedicated Street View app. With Street View, you'll be able to access categorized collections and user-submitted 360 images from all over the world. Anybody can contribute content for this app as long as it hasn't been recorded by someone else. With this, you can in fact get a 360 view of a particular building like, say, a museum. Become A Voyager With Google Earth © Reuters Google Earth has a mode called Voyager that lets you travel in time and space by opening a directory of all of Google's special collections. You get things like per country highlights, collections based on different themes like airports, Unesco World Heritage Sites, and more. You also get a detailed write up to help you understand the history of that particular place and a whole lot more. This is definitely something that I am going to be using a lot during this lockdown period.

4 Simple Ways To Prepare Your Hair To Be Tied In A Man Bun, When Salons Are Not An Option

With India being in lockdown until at least the 15th of April, if not longer, there are some key decisions that need to be made. After youâre done with all the ones that ensure your safety and sustenance, come to the smaller but somewhat equally important things. What do you do about stuff like your hair and beard?
© iStock Beard, understandably so, is something that most of us can actually take care of ourselves. Our hair, on the other hand, because it takes a little longer to grow and is more conspicuous when some mistakes are made, is something that we do not want to take risks with unless an expert is involved. Now, if youâre confident and brave enough, you can try cutting your hair, by watching a few YouTube videos. Or else, you can actually start preparing your hair for that ultimate man bun that will surely be a huge hit once this quarantine malarkey is done.
© iStock But how exactly do you prepare your hair for a man bun? What exactly do you do to prepare your hair? Read on, and take notes. Regular Coconut Oil Champis © iStock You would want to make things easy for your hair as well as yourself. Proper champis or massages act as the base on which the health of your hair and your scalp depends, and if you choose to go for coconut oil, over those fancy formulated hair oils, you will be doing yourself a favour. Try to massage your hair at least once a week. Coconut oil has a lot of nutrients that make the roots of your hair strong, as well as the strands itself. Plus, it locks just the right amount of moisture in your scalp which makes it even healthier. Hair & Scalp Hygiene © iStock Other than keeping your scalp and hair clean, it is paramount that you keep your hair as clean as possible. No matter how exquisite or expensive your hair care routine is if you cannot maintain proper hair and scalp hygiene all your effort is wasted. Having said that, do not start aggressively shampooing your hair every day. Use a shampoo that suits your hair type, as well as your skin type. Also, try to go for products that are free of sulfates, alcohol and other harmful chemicals. And no matter what, if you are shampooing, always follow it up with a good conditioner, which again, suits your hair.
Brush Instead Of Combing © iStock A hairbrush, because it is softer on your scalp and hair, is always better for you when compared to a fine-toothed comb. Combs tend to cause far more hair breakage and are not able to massage the scalp when you style your hair. Furthermore, using a comb puts stress on your roots. A hairbrush, especially the ones with thin, densely packed bristles is actually softer on your hair. Plus, they deal with more hair in every stroke, which gives it a nice texture and fill. Brushes are also more effective in clearing up loose strands of hair or debris from your scalp.
Maintain The Moisture Of Your Hair
© iStock Given where we may be headed, shampooing every day is not actually possible, at least for us men. Therefore the best next alternative is washing your hair with warm water, carefully. With that being said, you have to ensure that the water isnât scalding hot, or else youâll end up damaging your hair, or even your scalp. And try to keep your scalp and hair moisturised. Apart from coconut oil massages, you can make some easy changes in your habits that help in retaining moisture, like massaging with aloe vera sap or cutting down your caffeine.

7 Character Actors Who Rivalled & Outshone The Leads In Their Bollywood Films

Best friend, sibling, distant relatives and quirky colleagues - every good screenplay comes with a wide variety of characters to flesh out the lead role's journey through a film. Bollywood's history is lined with actors who've made a name by immersing themselves in a role, sometimes so much so that the role becomes synonymous with them - think Amjad Khan in Sholay, for example. Today, Bollywood's best boast of some of the most incredible and intense performances ever captured on film - here's a few who did such a  good job with their roles, they've outshone the main leads on the films they've worked with. Manoj Bajpayee as Bhiku Mhatre, Satya Possibly one of the greatest castings in Bollywood history, Bajpayee's performance in Ram Gopal Varma's critically acclaimed crime thriller was nothing short of iconic, but did you know that the actor himself wasn't confident about the role? “Everybody used to feel so excited about my performance but I wasn't sure if we are doing it right,” he said, nearly 20 years after the film. “That feeling of unsureness was always looming large because no one of the film industry was making this kind of a film.” Vijay Raaz as Somayajulu, Delhi Belly Raaz has become a go-to choice for voice overs, and perhaps the best example of his gruff baritone is in this incredible black comedy from 2011. Perfect comedic timing, the ability to absolutely steal every scene he's in and a script that props it all up - if only we had more villains like him in the industry. Arshad Warsi as Shakti, Hulchul I'll admit I've got a soft spot for Priyadarshan films, and while the over-the-top drama and hilarious gags from Hulchul make it a prime candidate for my favourite one, a large reason why is Warsi's amazing performance. He's jumpy, completely owns his role and outshines lead Akshaye Khanna in every scene they both are in - although reportedly, Warsi had been disappointed with his role during the shoot, and resigned himself to commit to a 100% performance. He sure did. Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Shaikh, The Lunchbox It had to be either Paan Singh Tomar or this - one of the most interesting matchups in the history of Bollywood has been Siddiqui opposite Irrfan Khan, and given that the two were roommates during their days as struggling actors gives huge weight to their scenes together. However, Irrfan acts like he always does, and Siddiqui - instead of his gung-ho gangster or small-time crook typecasts, absolutely nails the role of a bumbling office salesman. Saif Ali Khan as Langda Tyagi, Omkara Another fantastic Shakespearean adaptation of Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara brought together an epic cast - yet the surprise standout remains Saif Ali Khan in the role of the crafty, ruthless gangster Langda Tyagi. After a series of light-hearted roles, watching Saif pull off this intense performance was an absolute treat - and remains one of the best performances of his life. Pankaj Tripathi as Principal Srivastava, Nil Battey Sannata Similar to Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi's reputation as an antagonist in film is legendary - but watching the actor's rich, lovingly crafted performance as an upstanding school principal betrays the long years he spent developing his skills as a theatre actor. 'Nil Battey Sannata' is my story,” the actor said to Times of India. “It says that one should keep dreaming, stay focused and the dreams will come true.” Annu Kapoor as Dr. Baldev, Vicky Donor Famous for his roles and captivating talent as a TV show host, Annu Kapoor blew expectations out of the park with his work in Vicky Donor, splitting audiences' sides with his portrayal of an eccentric fertility clinic doctor. Apparently the role was first offered to Boman Irani - while we think he would have done the role justice, Kapoor's work was just the extra kick of humour that the film needed - making Ayushmann Khurrana's debut a truly special and iconic movie.

Cops Are Now Dressing Up As The Coronavirus To 'Scare' People Into Staying Home

Just a couple of weeks ago, we got one of the strangest and hilarious news story - a channel in Egypt literally interviewed the coronavirus. Back then, I was so disappointed that any Indian channel didn't do it first since something like that is so on-brand for our country. But of course, India might disappoint me in so many ways, at least it came through when it comes to theatrics surrounding the pandemic. Tamil Nadu police made a cop wear a coronavirus helmet to raise awareness about the importance of staying home during the lockdown. You can't make this shit up. Tamil Nadu: Police in Chennai has been creating awareness among the people about the importance of them staying at home amid #CoronavirusLockdown by making a police personnel wear a helmet designed to look like Coronavirus. The helmet has been designed by a local artist Gowtham. pic.twitter.com/LlxrUYfihX — ANI (@ANI) March 28, 2020 He looks more like an alien than a virus, tbh. Inspector Rajesh Babu says, "We had been talking to public. But awareness among them is very less. So we thought of doing something different. We designed a helmet that looks like coronavirus. We thought of doing something which will scare the people and make them stay at home." https://t.co/dG3NCWpUPz pic.twitter.com/wwbkhRrinT — ANI (@ANI) March 28, 2020 This is such a tricky situation, I do think this is more hilarious than scary but I also want to acknowledge the police brutality happening all over the country at the moment. Not all cops are lathi charging innocent people who have no option but to step out for a few essentials and not all cops are making vendors and shopkeepers pay them 'hafta' and kharcha paani to do their business, but there needs to be accountability as well. This is a time for everyone to work together to their part in stopping this virus from spreading and a few people's selfishness can have a lot of repercussions. Okay, my inner conflict monologue is done and coming back to the virus helmet, there's another very valid concern as put forward by someone in the replies. It can have the exact opposite effect. It won't scare them. They will instead laugh and come out of their home to see this. — Sumit (@Kaniskmumbai) March 28, 2020 There's appreciation. Good creativity... and great thing is that you are worried abt public and doing a good job.. — POONAM ARORA (@capoonamarora) March 28, 2020 Yep. They are getting so creative with this lmao https://t.co/nrD3COs7Nm — Pruthaâ¡ (@pruthakadu) March 28, 2020 Definitely. ð¤£ð¤£

A+ for the effort. https://t.co/7hXQolQq2f — Akshath (@mangalore_man) March 28, 2020 Hmm. That is one creative way of spreading awareness about #coronavirus and asking people to stay at home during the #21daylockdown. #StayHomeStaySafe https://t.co/1eFnERGE0t — Bhaskar Sarma (@Bhaskar__Sarma) March 28, 2020 Sure. This is why I love Chennai and the people there! https://t.co/kKe0eQiHdq — notthatpk (@sinhapk) March 28, 2020 Maybe both? Not sure whether to laugh or cry 𥺠https://t.co/BheDUeapun — Tushar Gugnani (@TusharGugnani) March 28, 2020 It's terrifying. God, even I am scared of that. https://t.co/jvwdkoG4yN — Garima Garg (@garimagarg_) March 28, 2020

Varun Dhawan Remixes PM Modi's Lockdown Speech & We Hope 'Go Karuna, Karuna Go' Is Next

Someone needs to check up on Bollywood celebrities ASAP, as I don't think they're doing too well under lockdown these days. It honestly seems like the self-quarantine is getting to them a lot as they're locked down in their huge houses and living in their bubble of privilege and entitlement. Since all kinds of work has been halted these days, actors have resorted to making content on their own and the latest one is a rap song by Varun Dhawan in which he has remixed PM Modi's speech announcing the lockdown. Let's make this #lockdown a success stay home listen  to our prime minister @narendramodi @PMOIndia #StayHomeStaySafe pic.twitter.com/tuhvLZ9vG3 — Varun Dhawan (@Varun_dvn) March 28, 2020 I just have one thing to say to him - Bro, this ain't it, I'm sorry. I really hope I'm not the only one cringing hard about this 'rap song' because come on, man, you have the chance to make a real difference by helping people in need instead of doing this. But, seems like I have an unpopular opinion on this going by the reactions. Well, if he's so interested in making remixes, I really hope he takes on 'Go Karuna, Karuna Go', as that would be hilarious. I believe in him, I know he can definitely increase the cringe factor of that. And I oop - Rt ke liye kya kya nhi krte celeb — Rahul (@KattarKapoor) March 28, 2020 SMH. Vladimir Is Definitely Not Putin His Health In Danger By Flexing Hard With Hazmat Suit

Vladimir Putin can do anything, literally anything, and still be flexing on any and every single person. It's just in his blood, or maybe he's developed that fear in people over the years. With so many politicians and world leaders at high risk, and so many already tested positive for coronavirus, Putin is making sure he's absolutely safe in the most hilarious way possible. Just roaming around in his custom made corona hazmat suit, he's staying safe AND stylish during the chaos. Honestly, I'm still not sure if the pictures of him in a cabinet meeting dressed in that hazmat suit are real or not - so many sources are saying it's real - but I just wanted to add a disclaimer. Moreover, I wouldn't put it past Putin to show up with all the precautions, tbh. "Are you wearing the.." "The custom corona couture? Yes, I am." The First Episode Of 'Ramayan' Aired This Morning & Has Made Everyone Oh-So-Nostalgic

A pandemic is upon us and the only and most important thing people can do to stop it is just stay at home. It's that simple and it's great to see everyone who's able to stay indoors actually are. It's the bare minimum people can do to stop the spread of coronavirus. While most Indians seem to be following the protocol, there are some extra measures taken to keep people inside their homes. For example, just start re-airing a show that used to keep people glued to their TV screens even without a potentially world-ending event.   Yes, because of popular demand, Ramanand Sagar's iconic show Ramayan has started airing on DD National from today, and there's so much nostalgia attached to it that people are over the moon about the recast. © Twitter To paraphrase the message, my dad was just reading aloud - "Back in the day when Ramayan aired, the roads would be empty because everyone was watching the show. Now that the roads are empty, they have started airing Ramayan again." It's like everyone has transported back in time and are once again glued to the TV to catch every episode of the legendary show. Full attendance infront of the TV @ 9am. We are re-living our childhood (I was 7 years old and my parents bought a Bush TV for me to see this show)... my kids might never understand but Iâm happy they are watching with me. #Ramayan @DDNational pic.twitter.com/pYIM7zj4wD â Shweta Shalini (@shweta_shalini) March 28, 2020Legends only.
