Anand Mahindra Surprises Fans With Music Taste, Turns Out The CEO Is A Fan Of Desi Indie Rock

By now we're pretty sure you would have realised that Mahindra & Mahindra Group CEO, Anand Mahindra is one of Twitter's most loved Indians. But no one saw this coming. He really surprised us earlier today by posting a shoutout to one of Nagaland's most talented bands - the 3-man 1-woman outfit, Trance Effect. A friend sent me this link. A group called Trance Effect from Nagaland. I wonder if the rest of India—and also the world—understands the musical talent that is brewing & incubating in our North East? https://t.co/Mw57qMkrFE. — anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) January 18, 2020 Trance Effect is from the city of Dimapur, and consists of Iuli Yeptho on vocals, Sosang Lkr on drums, Tako Chang on guitar and Imnamaong Imchen on bass. Formed in 2017, they've released their newest track Clowns just around a week ago - give it a listen below. According to the band, the song talks about 'an individual trying to fit in with the society which is already a mess, people trying to pretend to be happy but deep inside they are all struggling to find happiness, being lost in that crowd [and] trying to find one's own true self as the chorus goes, "covered in paint, we're all clowns lost in the crowd". Meanwhile, several of Mahindra's followers checked out the song, and shared their appreciation for the points he's raised. Sir, do listen to this as well. There is talent in every school of music hidden in the #NorthEast .https://t.co/pNsOM0DNfB — Ninjamonkey (@Aryanwarlord) January 18, 2020 Awesome. Thank you for sharing.
The East should become the cultural capital of the nation and world. Brimming with talent. — Sustainable Green Initiative (@rmsgi) January 18, 2020 Thanks for sharing sir. All we hear in this country now is some shit. I loved the music. — Vinay hosamane (@vinayhosamane) January 18, 2020 what an amazing talent our north east has immense potential i must say — Ashish Choudhary (@omashu01) January 18, 2020 Amazing! Thanks for sharing it. — Kay.Cee.En. (@KavitaNigam2) January 18, 2020 Mahindra isn't quite a stranger to music - his company's 'Mahindra Blues Festival' is the largest Asian festival of the genre, after all. Perhaps we may see a few surprise entries in the lineup for this year's edition in February too, who knows?

5 Super-Easy 2-Min Hacks Men Need To Get A Healthy-Looking & Thicker Beard

There's nothing sadder for a man who wants to grow a long and luscious beard than having an irregular, patchy and scraggly growth. Now, there isn't anything wrong, with having a patchy beard, if you take care of it and shape and groom it accordingly.  © Instagram/ranadaggubati That being said, if you plan to grow a long beard, or if you're going for that ultimate, lumbersexual image, having a patchy beard just won't cut it. So what do we do? Well, luckily for us, there are a few budget-friendly, neat tricks that help us give our beards some volume, and cover up the patches. Read on, and thank us later: 1. Use A Beard Wax © iStock A beard wax helps you give your beard a definite shape while keeping it soft and shiny. A beard wax gives your beard a firm hold, without damaging the hair in any way, just like a good hair mousse. Furthermore, a beard wax protects the hair of the beard, as well as the roots from the elements, while giving it an appearance of being thick and fuller. 2. Use  A Beard Filler © iStock Remember those cheat codes that we used when playing games like GTA? Beard fillers work something like that. Do keep in mind, they are only suitable if you need a thick and fuller-looking beard for an hour or two. However, they do work the best and are the easiest to use. Just ensure that you don't get wet in any way, or that you don't take a handkerchief or serviette to your face and you're sorted. 3. Shampoo & Conditioner © iStock Just washing your beard isn't enough, you need to use a good beard conditioner as well. A shampoo will dry your beard out, whereas a conditioner will, well, condition it. A beard conditioner, just like a good hair conditioner, is a quick and easy way to instantly give your facial mane some volume, and nourishment.  4. Blow Dry If You Have A Long Beard © iStock Sounds unusual, doesn't it? Well whether on your face or your head, hair behaves almost the same way. So, taking a blow dryer to it once you have washed it isn't actually a bad idea, if done in moderation. Do keep in mind that the skin on your face is much sensitive, so keep it at the lowest setting and a good 10 inches away from your beard. Also, like many other things, moderation is key here, so go for it only once in a while, after you have oiled and shampooed your beard. 5. Brush It © iStock And finally, give your beard a proper shape. And use a beard brush for it instead of a comb, or running your fingers through it. Also do keep in mind, that your beard needs to be dry when you're brushing it. Brushing a wet beard is not exactly an effective or hygienic thing to do.

Here Are Some Clever & Unique Solutions Organisers Are Using To Make Music Fests More Eco-Friendly

If you've been around the festival circuit for a while, there's one thing that I'm sure you've noticed during the late-hour, long walk back towards the gates - an absolute apocalypse of plastic and paper waste lining the walkways of the world's biggest names in counterculture. It's a problem that arose all the way back in 1969 with the advent of the original Woodstock festival - apparently, hippies at the time weren't all too much about protecting the Earth. © History Cleaning up the venue was a mammoth task and required several days, many bulldozers and tens of thousands of dollars - it was probably only possible because of the 8,000 or so volunteers that helped clean up the mess of 400,000 others. It's a problem that, despite modern solutions to waste management, have scaled immensely with the ever-growing popularity of music festivals, which are now selling tickets well into the few hundred thousands. Fortunately, there's more than a few initiatives hoping to implement collaborative, well-designed and ingeniously engineered solutions to the festival waste epidemic, and it all starts in the grip of your hand. Plastic cups and alcohol both aren't very well known for their involvement in responsible initiatives, but a recent breakthrough by world-famous rum distiller and festival organisers Bacardi is looking to change that. Festivals have traditionally relied on the cheap, effective use of plastic-based cups for decades now - easy to transport, use and produce, they're also unfortunately discarded by festival-goers and result in mountains of waste that can take up to 90 years to decompose. A solution appeared to Bacardi's EMEA Marketing Director, Rohith Reddy, when contemplating the issue faced at the brand's festivals and the ongoing pollution crisis in North India, caused by farmers burning off vast amounts of rice-stubble after the harvest season.  “We understood that these farmers are growing this amazingly important crop of rice,” explained Reddy. “The husk that's been left over from this crop - there's not a lot that farmers can do with it. It's a tough product to use and it can't be ploughed back into their fields. After researching the possible uses and wasted potential of this product, I eventually realised, 'why not use these to make cups? Forks and spoons, all these plastics we use at our events?'” © Bacardi After playing around with various formulations, Reddy's team partnered with manufacturing units to create a 100% biodegradable, completely usable and even microwavable rice-husk based cup. They're made from a combination of rice husk sourced from Indian farmers, vegetable oils and biodegradable plastic - and while the next best option of biodegradable paper cups disintegrate by the time you're done with a couple refills, these were effective and durable enough that several festival-goers from Bacardi's 2019 Weekender festival took them back home as keepsakes. It's important to take note that audiences did this, as it reflects a marked change in the psychology behind reusability and sustainability. “The coolest thing,” remarks Reddy, “is that we're not forcing anyone to do these things - it's just a reflection of their behaviours at home. In our private lives, we're all conscious about waste and reuse. It's just a matter of showing people that they can do the same thing when at large-scale events such as these.” As of today, the brand has introduced over 77,000 of these cups at events such as the NH7 Weekender and Casa Bacardi, and is looking to expand this initiative through the 2020s.  Similarly, smaller companies are also helping make music events more responsible and eco-friendly such as Cupable - a reusable tumbler company that aims to tackle the ever-growing issue of ocean-plastic generation at the source. Over 90% of plastic bottles used are never recycled, and often find themselves in landfills or worse, in the stomachs of marine life. Just within December 2019, the brand saved over 2 tonnes of plastic through their work. If you're not the kind who likes to stay limited to a single vice, smokers are also a target for companies looking to cut down on waste. According to the Wall Street Journal, cigarette butts are the most littered item worldwide - over 4 trillion of them find themselves stomped on, tossed on the ground and flung out of car windows every year. In a stroke of much-needed genius, Pune-based startup Butt Ballot has devised a unique way to get more people to dispose of their cigarettes responsibly - by targeting the one thing everyone in India seems to have loads of - opinions. The concept is simple - grab attention by giving a smoker a choice of where to stub their cigarettes - option A or B - and as the transparent-windowed boxes fill up through the day, what was once an oft-ignored dustbin turns into an attention-grabbing conversation starter.  View this post on Instagram Our second year at @magneticfieldsfestival with 12 ballots spread out around the palace and desert area to help manage the cigarette waste. Big ups to all who stubbed in the ballots. One cigarette butt can contaminate up to 1000 litres of water so EVERY SINGLE BUTT counts. More on how many butts in the ballots, soon ð¬â»ï¸ð¬ . . Huge shout-out to Prannoy Thipaiah @thipaiah for facilitating this effort towards sustainability at the festival! âð¼You know it's being done right when a music festival has its own Sustainability Expert to incorporate measures at a systemic level. ðð¼ . . #sustainable #magneticfields #musicfestival #gogreen #greendesign #stubresponsibly #cigarettebuttsareplastic A post shared by TheButtBallot (@thebuttballot) on Dec 16, 2019 at 6:44am PST At just the 2019 Weekender alone, the company collected 30,000 butts across 3 days before recycling the remaining tobacco, paper and even the filter. Hopefully one day, the kind of mess we've created at these otherwise beautiful festivals will be a thing of the past and Reddy agrees with this kind of optimism. “As we look forward,” he concludes, “it's truly exciting because the technology is starting to match our ambition - an ambition to make sure this planet is alive and thriving for generations to come.”

Arab Guy Forgets The Word 'Mouse' & Calls Hotel Staff To Complain About 'Jerry' In His Room

Sometimes, we all forget some words, it happens. English is not our first language, after all. But, turns out, pop culture knowledge can actually save the day. Exhibit A - a man trying to tell the staff at his hotel that there's a mouse in his room, while actually forgetting the word 'mouse'. Basically, an Arab tourist visiting the UK called up the hotel staff to complain about 'Jerry' in his room, you know, from Tom and Jerry. The hilarious conversation is going viral, for obvious reasons, and people are loving the entire conversation just because of how funny it actually is. This Arab guy calls the hotel reception to complain about a mouse in his room. Listen to how he describes the situation ðððððð pic.twitter.com/feObtAj9Bp — Arab Brincess (@Ella_7991) January 17, 2020 I have one thing to say - First of all, I really admire the hotel staff member's restraint and professionalism because if it was me, I would've lost it. And secondly, the "bring Tom" part is the best thing from the video, it killed it. Arab Guy: i have jerry in my room.. can you.. can you bring tom into my room

Kartik Aaryan Wore 'Tyre Boots' & They're Way More Interesting Than The 'Love Aaj Kal' Trailer

The new Love Aaj Kal trailer is out, and fans have a lot of questions. Right from the same title name to the same songs (to almost the same storyline?), a lot of elements look like we've seen it all before, and people are curious about what makes it special.  However, Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan recently went for the trailer promotion, and they look really good together. © Viral Bhayani Their outfits were super funky, with Kartik wearing a black and white jacket full of hearts, and Sara donning a fluorescent ensemble. © Viral Bhayani Kartik was at his usual fashionable self, with a playful outfit, but what captured our attention was a pair of really interesting boots he wore. © Viral Bhayani © Viral Bhayani The boots he wore had a super edgy 'tyre' pattern, that accentuated the sophistication of the street aesthetic his outfit was all about. The black and white colour scheme makes the pair extremely classy, without taking away from its versatility. © Viral Bhayani © Viral Bhayani When it comes to his overall outfit, we love his choice of an orange T-shirt underneath the monochrome-ish fair, that breaks the monotony. We like the fact he kept it simple in terms of lowers, by opting for a pair of blue jeans. © Viral Bhayani All we can say is, we hope the movie is as good as his outfit. All the best, Kartik!

Influencing The 'Gram: Ranveer Allahbadia Answers Some Key Questions About His Personal Style

An entrepreneur, a content creator, a youth icon, a fitness expert and finally, an influencer - there are many hats that Ranveer Allahbadia, or BeerBiceps, as the internet knows him, has worn. The content that he creates for his YouTube channel, or Instagram, for that matter, has found a voracious audience. Just look at the comments section of any of his videos or post and you'll know what we're on about. © Instagram/beerbiceps From successfully creating a brand of himself to now helping others like him in creating content that matters, he has come a long way. And one key aspect of being a content creator is the ability to present your own self with panache, and a style, sartorially and otherwise, that is relatable. © Instagram/beerbiceps Here's how Ranveer Allahbadia aka BeerBiceps keeps his style effortless, appealing, and engaging. Read on, guys, and take notes. Tell us about your journey, how did you start as a content creator? Right after engineering college, I thought I'll start a fitness startup. Once we started our work, we thought of approaching a few investors who would back us. It was at this point someone pointed out that I should use social media to market ourselves. That's how BeerBiceps came into being. Initially, the plan was to get around 2000 subscribers on YouTube. However, once we started, I could see that this was actually a profitable business as well. So this became a new startup for me.  There's this perception that men do not need to be fashion-conscious and that men have an intrinsic style that they are born with and need to stick with. Do you agree? No, Not at all. I will talk about myself. I figured out my own sense of style over a period of time, by experimenting a lot. Even at this stage, I try and experiment with my style. I think by the time you are in your late 20s and early 30s, you get an idea of the things that work for you and what you enjoy as a guy. That being said, you shouldn't limit yourself to anything. Don't be the guy who only wears shirts or t-shirts or polos. Change things up a little, and try new things. That's why we have YouTube. © Instagram/beerbiceps What are some sartorial staples that every guy should have in their closet? Other than the obvious stuff like a well-fitting suit(https://www.mensxp.com/fashion/style-guide/31148-the-perfect-guide-to-making-sure-your-suit-fits-you-perfectly.html), guys should also have sherwanis, and jodhpuri suits. Also, get a few tailored dress shirts, especially if you work out regularly. Working out gives your body a great frame. Tailored shirts are a great way to make your frame pop out and stand apart. © Instagram/beerbiceps How would you define your personal style statement? There are two faces to my style actually. Sometimes, I dress really sharp, especially when I am going to the office or have to attend meetings and other formal events like conferences etc. Other times it's very athleisure friendly. If I am dressed in casuals, it will always be athleisure. I don't wear any other kind of casuals, mainly because I like to go straight to the gym after that date, or hanging out with my friends. © Instagram/beerbiceps Who is that one style icon that you always look up to? Why? I really look up to Tom Ford. The kind of suits he wears, and the way he carries himself. I also really like Akshay Kumar. I think Punjabis are inherently well-dressed. I love his sense of style, especially the shoes that he wears. What do you prefer to wear on a date? I like to play things safe, so there are a few safe, staple options. A pair of blue denim jeans with a white shirt, or a black shirt, or a black t-shirt with black pants and white sneakers. If it's somewhat formal, then a burgundy or wine coloured shirt tucked inside a pair of black trousers, with a pair of good dress shoes.  What is that one fashion trend that you don't understand or are unable to relate to? Dad shoes. I can't imagine myself wearing those bulky shoes. Not my style at all. © Instagram/beerbiceps Who is that one historical figure that you'd love to dress up as? I am deeply in love with sherwanis. Assuming that Mughals wore that more often, I would say Akbar. Jodha Akbar was a great film, and I think Hrithik Roshan looked like a boss in it. What has been the best fashion advice that you've received to date? To get my shirts and pants tailored. What advice would you give someone who wants to pursue a career as an influencer? Focus on one post at a time and try to incorporate as much value as you can in that post. Secondly, post consistently. © Instagram/beerbiceps Walk us through a typical workday - how do you go about? In the morning, I have a meditation session and plan out the day ahead of me, followed by a long shower. After that, the day gets a little fast. From 11:00 AM till 8:00 PM, I am at the office, which usually is very fast-paced. At about 9:00, I get back home and work out till 10:30 PM. After that, I usually just chill out or read, till 1:00 or 2:00 AM. A large part of my work is to write, and the only way a writer gets good at his craft is by being a voracious reader. What do you think of men using cosmetics? As long as you are comfortable using cosmetics, go for it, it's perfectly fine. There's nothing “unmanly” about them. I personally am very comfortable in my own skin, so I don't find the need to use cosmetics. © Instagram/beerbiceps Do you have a dedicated skincare routine? Just a very basic one, actually. I just wash my face twice a day. My skin is super oily, so I don't feel the need to moisturise. Other than that, twice a week I will use an exfoliator and an aloe vera face mask. Those are the only two hatke things I have in my skincare routine. I am very careful about the stuff that I eat, and what gets into my body, which I think is where good skincare starts.  One historical era that you find extremely fashionable?  The Mughal era. © Instagram/beerbiceps One celebrity who can teach everyone else a lesson or two on how to pull off the Indian aesthetic elegantly, when it comes to menswear. Shahid Kapoor. Just stalk him on Instagram. Your favourite style icon from Bollywood that you would like to collaborate with, for a video? Akshay Kumar, and Shahid Kapoor. I really like Ranbir Kapoor's sense of style as well. One traditional Indian menswear item you believe every Indian man should have in his wardrobe, and why. A classic black sherwani. © Instagram/beerbiceps Do you prefer - Tailored Suits Or Ready-To-Wear Suits? I've never worn a ready-to-wear suit in my life, and I don't think I ever will. Sneakers or Boots? Sneakers, anytime. © Instagram/beerbiceps Traditional Ethnic Wear, Or Something Contemporary? Traditional Ethnic Wear. They have a charm of their own. As much as people like to bash social media, there's no denying the fact that a large chunk of our lives is being shaped by it. What better way to really gauge this phenomenon than by the rise of influencers over platforms like YouTube and Instagram? Indeed, the world has become one small 'gram'. As a series, Influencing The 'Gram seeks to explore how social media influencers have changed the way we think of fashion over the decade, and how for most of them, even though they consider themselves to be ardent renegades, fashion and style contribute immensely to their online personas.

The Hilarious Memes On The 'Love Aaj Kal' Trailer Are Way Better Than The Actual Trailer

I thought we had just entered 2020 but looks like Bollywood is still stuck in 2009.  Imtiaz Ali is back with the same old story, but with a new younger cast. I mean, yeah, he went for the tried and tested method because Love Aaj Kal was a hit 11 years ago, but now, he's being called out for just giving everyone the exact same story. Well, to say that the trailer of Love Aaj Kal, that was released yesterday, being not well-received, would kind of be an understatement.  From finding Sara Ali Khan's acting underwhelming, to just being disappointed by the lack of creativity, the trailer has been trolled quite a bit since yesterday.  Even Saif Ali Khan preferred his old trailer over this. But, the trailer did do something great - give us some hilarious memes.  Every new trailer inspires a bunch of memes, but it's kind of sad and funny at the same time when the memes end up being so much better than the actual trailer. Always. #LoveAajKal #LoveAajKal2

Sania Mirza's Title-Winning Return In Hobart After Childbirth Is An Inspiration To All Mothers

For arguably one of the biggest names in Indian tennis, Sania Mirza, the past couple of years, was spent either busy rooting for husband Shoaib Malik from the stands or posting adorable photographs of herself on Instagram. It was neither an injury nor a decision to take a break from tennis. Sania had been away from the tennis court to prepare herself for being a mother and start a family with Malik. Her focus on family kept her away from the sport for two years where she chose against competing on the WTA circuit in the entire 2018 and 2019 seasons. But, after giving birth to her son Izhaan in 2018, it seems like Mirza was raring to make a sensational comeback to tennis. And, that's exactly what she did. Playing her first tournament after a two-year-long maternity break, Sania couldn't have dreamed of a better comeback than winning the WTA Hobart International doubles title along with her on-court partner Nadiia Kichenok on 18th January. The unseeded Indo-Ukrainian pair got the better of the second-seed Chinese duo of Shuai Peng and Shuai Zhang 6-4, 6-4 in a one-hour-21-minute summit clash. The two teams went head-to-head in the first set, matching each other in every stroke. But, towards the end of the first set, Sania and Nadiia got a crucial break at 4-4 (set), 40-all (game) and a key opportunity to serve out the set. The 10th game sprung no surprise as the Indo-Ukrainian pair eked out a 6-4 win in the first set. They broke Peng and Zhang to take an early lead and consolidated the break with an easy hold. But, Sania and Nadiia raised their game when it mattered the most, breaking their opponents in the ninth game before serving out the match in the next. The winning pair earned a well-deserved trophy and the prize money of USD 13,580. Straight sets win ð¤©

Shikhar Dhawan Takes Over Chahal TV, Savagely Trolls Indian Leg-Spinner For His 'Bunny Teeth'

Trailing 0-1 in the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series, the Indian cricket team made a spectacular comeback against Australia in the second match at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium in Rajkot. Learning from their mistakes, the home side produced a much-improved performance that saw them level the proceedings at 1-1 in the short ODI series. Splendid innings from Shikhar Dhawan (96), KL Rahul (80) and Virat Kohli (78) saw India posting an imposing total of 340 runs to put pressure on the visitors. In reply, the Indian bowling unit got vital breakthroughs to put the Aussies on the back foot early on. A gritty knock of 98 runs from Steve Smith did keep the visiting side in the hunt, but the target eventually proved a tad too difficult as they were bundled out for 304 runs. The 36-run triumph was a much-needed win for Team India who managed to stay alive in the series which has now reached a cracking finale at Bengaluru on 19th January. Given their spirited comeback, the mood in the Indian camp was quite understandably celebratory as Kohli looked pretty satisfied with his players' performance. © Twitter/@BCCI Relaxed and at ease, Indian cricketers Dhawan and Rahul were seen sharing a few laughs at the expense of Yuzvendra Chahal after their win. Chahal has been a key spinner for India alongside Kuldeep Yadav, but the right-arm bowler has also struck a chord with fans through his fun-filled interview show titled 'Chahal TV'. But, Chahal missed out on a spot in India's playing XI for the 2nd ODI and was only seen coming on the field for a brief period as a substitute. With Chahal missing in action, Dhawan took over the spinner's role as host of 'Chahal TV' and was seen interviewing his teammate Rahul after th game. Not only did the opener do a great job with his guest KL Rahul, but he also came up with a hilarious reason for Chahal's absence. Finally, he has gone to fix his teeth after many years of us trying to get him to do that. That is why neither him nor his teeth can be seen)," Dhawan said leaving Rahul in splits. © Twitter/@BCCI Apart from sharing a few laughs, Dhawan also praised Rahul for his brilliant knock despite dropping down from one-down to No.5 and asked him about his thought process. "It helps that I have been scoring runs in the previous series in the last month. I had the confidence and I used my form well. Playing at No.3 or No. 5 as an opener is a different challenge but I was ready for it. I wanted to enjoy it. Today it came off and a lot of credit goes to you guys and the start you guys gave and the way Virat (Kohli) kept going on," Rahul, who was adjudged the 'Man of the Match' said.

Even though it's been almost a year since Ranveer Singh's Gully Boy left us drowning in a whirlpool of emotions, it's interesting to note how anything related to the movie still manages to make headlines. Gully Boy has been on a rollercoaster ride of its own since its release. Besides the chatter of mixed responses ranging from incredible to lukewarm, the hit film was also sent as India's official entry for the 2020 Oscars but sadly, couldn't make it to the nomination list. Don't Know About Delhi Polls, But AAP Just Won The Meme Elections With Their Dig At BJP

There's a fine line between cringe and funny when it comes to official accounts of political parties making memes, and right now, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is treading that line very carefully and hasn't gone over to the cringey side yet. But, their Twitter account has basically become a meme account now and people are actually here for it. From making movie scenes into memes to using songs to take a dig at their rival parties, they have done it all these past few days, especially with the Delhi Polls nearing.  While there is a lot of hilarious stuff on their timeline, the latest meme that they have shared might be the best one yet. India Ordered 200 Biryanis Per Minute In 2019 & Pizzas, Burgers Can Bow Before The 'Baap' Of Foods

In recent reports from the country's major food-ordering apps, one thing is clear across the board - Indians are absolutely head-over heels in love with biryani, as the dish topped out the most-ordered rankings for the third year in a row - a staggering 10 crore biryanis were ordered in 2019 when compiling statistics from Zomato, Swiggy & UberEats. Hyderabadi, Keralite, Lucknowi, Delhi-style or Kolkata, there's no shortage of ways to prepare the dish, and perhaps this incredible versatility across cultures and tastes is why biryani has retained its fame through half a millennia. Although somewhat unsurprisingly, Hyderabad has been the biggest contributor to 2019's figures, with 60 lakh orders of chicken biryani and 50 lakh orders of mutton biryani.  Keep in mind that Telangana, in a 2016 survey by the Registrar General of India, was crowned the non-vegetarian capital of India, with a near-99% rate of meat-eaters. One of the state's most famous biryani chefs was the late Narayan Reddy - an old farmer from the outskirts of Hyderabad that cooked massive meals along with his grandsons for orphaned children and impoverished villagers. In interviews with The Times of India(TOI), food delivery app representatives said, “It is easier for restaurants, and for those of us in the food business, to deliver biryani to our patrons than, say, a dosa, which can break on the way. Biryani also requires minimum, fuss-free packaging.” Regardless of how much you're willing to pay, you can get a pretty complete, fulfilling meal when ordering a biryani dish. Swiggy says that Mumbai's 'Chal Dhanno Tawa Biryani' sold for a jaw-dropping Rs 19, while Pune's 'Chicken Sajuk Tup Biryani' was the most exclusive offering you could order, at Rs 1500 per dish. While biryani purists have remained loyal to their favourites across generations - think of Hyderabad's Paradise Biryani or Mumbai's Lucky Biryani - today's foodies are fickle, and perhaps a little novelty in diets and taste have led to unusual combinations. “People are opting for low fat biryani, vegan biryani, tofu biryani and other biryanis that are unheard of, like pasta biryani,” said Bengaluru chef Kavita Jaisingh to TOI.  Whichever way you look at it - more biryani definitely can't be a bad thing.

Aparshakti Wearing A 'Space Watch' Makes Us Wonder If His Accessories Can Get Any Zanier

Remember when Aparshakti used some security and price tags as accessories, and we thought it was bhaari cool? Back then we also thought that that would be it. Oh, boy were we wrong.  The man also wore one of his co-actress's sunglasses as a statement piece. Well, that's Aparshakti for you. © Instagram/aparshakti_khurana If there is someone in Bollywood who can really go bonkers when it comes to accessorising their outfits, it has to be Aparshakti, hands down. © Viral Bhayani Recently, while promoting his upcoming film, Helmet he was spotted wearing a watch that is specifically designed and marketed for astronauts who are expected to constantly conduct spacewalks, in, well, space. © Viral Bhayani But first, let's get to his outfit. Aparshakti is wearing a rather dope black sweatshirt from Balmain, a Parisian high fashion brand. As simple as it may seem, upon closer inspection, you'll see that it has patches sewn over it, which gives it a rather bizarre and quirky appeal. The sweatshirt has been paired with a very heavily washed blue pair of denims. So heavy and aggressive is the wash that the blue almost seems to be grey. © Viral Bhayani This rather dope and laidback outfit have been paired with one of the zaniest and 'ugliest' pair of chunky sneakers we have seen. They are the Balenciaga Triple S Clear Sole Sneakers in Blue. It seems a lot of B-towners are huge fans of Balenciagas, for we have seen quite a few 'ugly' chunky sneakers from them.  © Viral Bhayani just in case you're interested, they retail $995, or just over Rs 70,000, plus the usual import duties that are levied on such items.  © Balenciaga Finally coming to the watch that Aparshakti is wearing, it is the Exospace B55 Volcano Black from Breitling, the Swiss watchmakers. They are from Breitling's Professional collection, which just goes on to show they mean business.  © Viral Bhayani Now, to be clear, most watches can technically work in space, but they will not be reliable in keeping time. Moreover, astronauts use watches for a number of reasons other than keeping track of time and the date. © Breitling Anyway, considering how technical and capable the watch is, it is actually not astronomically expensive. Still, it ain't exactly cheap. Listed at just under $9,000, or Rs 6,40,000, it should set you back by about Rs 7-7.25 lakhs.  © Breitling The one Aparshakti is wearing has a black titanium casing, which makes it that expensive. If you can make do with regular titanium, you can find the same watch for about $1,500 cheaper. © Viral Bhayani We also like how Aparshakti has matched his sneakers with his watch. Even for a laidback, casual outfit, this is actually a well thought out ensemble. © Viral Bhayani Hats off, Apakrshakti, seriously man, take a bow...

Rajasthan SDM Tries To Ruin Doctor's Life Over A 'Chair' & We Wonder If India Needs Such Officers

We can't get over injustices easily and love to rally against every wrong we witness. We also hate it when people misuse their power and employ their authority to serve their personal agenda. Then why is it that some individuals continue to feel entitled to a lot more than they deserve, simply because their name is attached to a 'title'? Just like this Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Rajasthan, who argued with a community health centre doctor over a chair. Here is what happened.  © Twitter In the quiet city of Hanumangarh in Rajasthan, the Pilibanga SDM Priyanka Talania had gone for a surprise inspection. That's when she asked the doctor on duty, Narendra Bishnoi, to vacate his chair for her because she wanted to check some documents.  Sh*t went down when the doctor politely declined to give up his chair since he was attending to patients at the time. He even requested Talania to make use of any other chair she wanted. That's when Talania lost her cool and began shouting at the doctor. The video of the verbal altercation soon surfaced online. She is SDM

And she went berserkð pic.twitter.com/9ssaISTm4p — Dr. Manish Kumar मनà¥à¤· à¤à¥à¤®à¤¾à¤° ÙÙÛØ´ Ú©ÙÙار (@drmanishranchi) January 16, 2020 The blatant misuse of power is evident in the 2-minute video where Talania can be seen wielding her position and authority to bully the doctor and even calls him names. The SDM goes so far as to label the doctor “unstable” because he refuses to give in to her threats and abuses. This is one of the real faces of Indian bureaucracy and how it functions in the country. The sense of entitlement that certain officers have is in direct contradiction with their real purpose as public servants. Just like the SDM in this video, who was willing to compromise the waiting patients' well-being to feel important. People have condemned the woman's behaviour and we think she had this coming. This is kind of entitlement the bureaucracy has in India.
This video is from Rajasthan.

Microsoft Wants To Remove All CO2 Emissions It Has Ever Emitted And Here's How It Can Achieve It

Microsoft announced a very ambitious yet plausible plan to make the company carbon negative by the year 2030. The company wants to actively remove all the carbon it has ever emitted since its existence and it's a welcomed move to curb climate change.  © Reuters The tech giant has pledged to "remove from the environment all the carbon the company has emitted either directly or by electrical consumption since it was founded in 1975.”  It is no secret that the world has been suffering dire consequences of climate change that has been caused by greenhouse gases. Microsoft and a number of other companies have started to take the pledge to combat carbon emissions.  In a press statement, Microsoft said “Ultimately, we must reach “net zero” emissions, meaning that humanity must remove as much carbon as it emits each year,' Microsoft wrote in an announcement. This will take aggressive approaches, new technology that doesn't exist today, and innovative public policy. It is an ambitious – even audacious – goal, but science tells us that it's a goal of fundamental importance to every person alive today and for every generation to follow.” © Microsoft Having said that, we haven't seen many companies pledge a carbon-negative goal as there are only a handful of companies including Ikea that have taken a similar pledge. Microsoft has already pushed employees to consider emissions while making business decisions. What's impressive is that Microsoft wants to reduce emissions across its entire supply chain and it's not only limited within the company.  How Will Microsoft Achieve This? There are a number of ways a company can achieve the carbon negative goal. If Microsoft is serious about its pledge, the company can do these things to achieve their target by 2030: â Balance its emissions by removing a tonne of carbon from the atmosphere for every tonne it has produced. â Offsetting its emissions, for example by investing in projects that reduce emissions elsewhere in the world. â Not releasing greenhouse gases in the first place, for example by switching to renewable energy sources.  Microsoft is expected to reduce 16 million metric tons of carbon this year, amounting to the same amount of emissions from 15 power plants that use coal as a fuel.

Saif Trolls Sara's 'Love Aaj Kal' Trailer & People Can't Help But Admire His Brutal Honesty

For those who have seen the OG Love Aaj Kal featuring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, the new one, starring Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan might seem mediocre, or rather a rehash of the older one. In an interview with Indian Express, Saif was asked about the trailer of his daughter Sara's movie and guess what, he was brutally honest in saying that he liked his one more in comparison. Also, while saying so, he took a long pause, making us wonder if he really liked it or not. Saif said, “I don't know why I still remember shooting for Love Aaj Kal. I saw the trailer, and obviously, I wish them all the best. I wish Sara the best for everything she does because she is my daughter. I kind of like my film's (Love Aaj Kal with Deepika Padukone in 2009) trailer more. What to say, but I wish them all the best.” #SaifAliKhan's reaction to #LoveAajKalTrailer

And after 11 years, the new Love Aaj Kal will also explore something similar but its own set of modern nuances. The movie is set to be released on February 14, this year and that's when we'll get to know people's verdict on the film. New TikTok Trend Involves Dipping Testicles In Soy Sauce & We Think It's Time For Thanos' Snap

Back when people wrote novels and films about the 2020s, they imagined hoverboards, self-lacing shoes and robotic labour. Unfortunately though, a bunch of TikTok users brought us down to reality this week as multiple users with followers in the several thousands jumped on to the latest in a series of bizarre trends.  This time, it involves covering your testicles in soy sauce - to see if you can catch the condiment's salty flavour from your 'nads. Yeah, you read that right. The trend seems to have emerged as a delayed reaction to a 2013 research paper, titled 'Taste perception: from the tongue to the testis'. The research is clear enough - through a series of detailed clinical trials involving experimentation on mice, there appears to be a strong link between reproductive health and a series of chemical receptors that are 'similar to taste buds' - apparently so much so that if these receptors were disabled, significant changes in cell structure and reproductive function were observed.  © Wikimedia; Human chemical receptors work through the function of 'gustatory cells'. These fascinating evolutionary outcomes are able to detect and discern various chemicals, and in the case of oral taste buds, work with other structures to send a signal to the brain that we interpret as various kinds of tastes. Fascinating stuff for molecular biology buffs - but that didn't quite grab the headlines, so the controversial and often offensive UK tabloid The Daily Mail wrote a story claiming that testicles, believe it or not, have taste buds. The results call for another research paper - perhaps this time on the sheer stupidity of the human race. One of the first to go ahead with this was Alx James, whose near-million follower count was treated to him trying out the sauce in a car, followed by him making sounds I can barely describe as human. Another user by the name of Matthew Lush got his 91k followers to check his attempt as well. If you've ever wondered about the limits of human curiosity, keep wondering. In the meantime, study researcher Bedrich Mosinger spoke to Business Insider, and clarified on the limitations of both the paper and these 'taste buds'. "[The] function of taste receptors and signaling proteins outside of [the] taste system is still unclear... [in some areas] they seem to be part of the chemical sensing of sugars or amino acids,” he said. “For the most part, though, [the] full function of these extra-orally located taste receptors is unknown."

A Man Started Using The Airport TV To Play Video Games And Here's How He Did It

An airport can be a very boring and a frustrating place, especially. if you have to wait for your flight. Most people tend to grab something to eat, take a nap or have a coffee. In fact, I tend to game on my Nintendo Switch whenever I'm waiting to be seated as well, however, this fellow took it to the next level.  A man was travelling through Oregon's Portland International Airport earlier this week and was caught playing a video game, Apex Legends, to be specific, on one of the monitors.  "I couldn't believe it. You've got all these monitors there and he's playing a video game," said Stefan Dietz, who spotted the man playing and tweeted a picture. This person was also using a headset to communicate with other players, presumably using the WiFI at the airport or his phone's hotspot.  This guy has his video game plugged into one of the airport monitors.

What's interesting is that the man was playing Apex Legends on the monitor at 4:30 AM via hooking up a PlayStation 4 to the monitor.  © Twitter He hooked up the PlayStation 4 via an HDMI port and probably used the physical input button to switch the source of the feed. If you zoom into the picture, you can probably see the two cords and the PlayStation 4 on the ground.  It is worthy to point out that the person did not get into trouble for using the AirPort screen and was politely asked to 'unplug and cease using the monitors at the airport' by airport officials. The gamer did ask if he can unplug the setup after finishing his round but his request was denied.

Kartik Aaryan Bought His Mom A Mini Cooper For Her Birthday While We're Still Riding The Metro

In case you've been wondering what to gift someone special for their birthday, take a backseat. Actor Kartik Aaryan just one-upped betas everywhere with a gift he's arranged for his mother's  birthday - a Mini Cooper S convertible, in 'Racing Green'. View this post on Instagram #KartikAaryan mobbed by fans as he took his mother for a drive in her newly gifted car. This was a surprise for his mom who always wanted this mini but Kaartik could not afford earlier. Its the First car in india which is a British racing green convertible Mini Cooper Cbu #viralbhayani @viralbhayani A post shared by Viral Bhayani (@viralbhayani) on Jan 16, 2020 at 10:33pm PST According to Pinkvilla, Kartik's mother, Mala Tiwari had once mentioned the car to him during the early days of his career, telling him that she liked it despite not remembering the name. Kartik, however, had kept this in mind. Not only did he fulfill the promise he made to himself to buy the car for her, the actor also took her for a ride - although they were unfortunately swarmed by fans. We hope Mrs. Tiwari isn't too intimidated by speed however - the Mini Cooper S is a serious machine coming from a long pedigree of British racing hatchbacks.  Capable of hitting 100 kmph in less than 7 seconds and notorious for its balanced stance and incredible cornering capabilities, the car is easy on the eyes too, and can be made even more fun by dropping the roof - provided Mumbai's weather isn't too bad. Kartik's career also seems to be in top gear at the moment, riding on the success of his last film Pati, Patni Aur Woh. In fact, today's an important day for Kartik as well - who will be seen in Love Aaj Kal soon alongside Sara Ali Khan. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film's trailer has just dropped today. True to its theme, the film releases this year on Valentines Day, 14th of February. Following this, Kartik will also be seen in the sequel of the superhit film Bhool Bhulaiyaa this year.

There's A Calculator To Find Out How Your Closet Is Harming The Planet & Here's How To Use It

'Sustainable' fashion is not a new buzzword on the internet. In the last couple of years, we've started becoming increasingly self-aware of the kind of waste we've been generating, not just in terms of the clothes that we wear but also in our everyday life. When Greta Thunberg talks about the 'future' being stolen from her, this is what she is talking about - how climate change is affecting us in very real and self-destructing ways. And one of the major contributors to the unfathomable amount of carbon footprint generated on this planet is arguably the fashion industry. And while the big corporate giants are majorly at fault, it's also because of the consumers who are rapidly consuming 'fast fashion' which in turn creates more demand, and creates the vicious and toxic cycle of consuming and producing clothes that become a burden to the planet. © Getty Images This brings us to these vital questions: how often do you buy new clothes? Do you make a conscious decision to shop from sustainable brands? How do you dispose off old clothes? These are some of the questions in the Fashion Footprint Calculator that help calculate the annual carbon footprint of your closet based on how you buy and maintain your clothes.  View this post on Instagram â ï¸WARNING: Closets may be dirtier than they appear. â ï¸It's fun. You'll learn a ton. You might want to take it twice. Our Fashion Footprint Quiz is here ðMore in our Story or click the #linkinbio to get to it. #fashionfootprint . . . . . #chooseused #secondhandfirst #textilewaste #sustainablelifestyle #sustainableliving #qotd A post shared by thredUP (@thredup) on Jan 15, 2020 at 6:12am PST   You can take the quiz here to find out your closet's carbon footprint. This campaign has been launched by US-based online marketplace ThredUp which is an online thrift store that makes a conscious effort towards building a community that cares about ethical and sustainable fashion. “Our closets impact the planet and climate more than you might realize, which is why I am proud to partner with @thredUP to launch their new Fashion Footprint Calculator. They created an easy to use tool, and I'm so excited to help people discover the carbon impact of their wardrobes, and steps you can take to lighten your fashion footprint. They'll tell you what your fashion footprint is equivalent to a number of flights, exactly how many pounds of CO2 it produces and how you fare compared to an average consumer,” said actor and UN Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson, in her Instagram post on January 15, where she announced her #ad collaboration with ThredUp to present the Fashion Footprint Calculator.   On top of that, each time the quiz is publicly shared by someone, Thred Up — till March 31, 2020— will donate $1 (â¹70 approx.) to the ThredUP Circular Fashion Fund, dedicated to supporting sustainable fashion efforts worldwide.

Jeff Bezos' Zebra-Inspired Tuxedo Is The Quirkiest One We've Ever Seen Anyone Wear

A lot has been said and done over Jeff Bezos' trip to India, and the recent investigation into the two major e-commerce sites we have in India. Amazon, as benign as they seem and as much as our lives have come to depend on them, doesn't exactly come across as a company that has a stellar reputation. © Reuters A lot has also been said about Jeff Bezos and his meteoric rise from selling books and toys from a warehouse, to the richest man in the world, in spite of a few daunting personal setbacks. However, all said and done, the man clearly is playing on a different playing field. © Reuters At Amazon's recent blue carpet event for Prime Video, which was attended by a host of Bollywood celebrities, Jeff Bezos, and his alleged beau, Lauren Sanchez made their “red carpet” debut. © Viral Bhayani As expected from our Bollywood celebrities, all of them were decked out from head to toe in designer labels, and some really stunning ensembles. What caught our surprise though, was the Amazon man himself. © Instagram/iamsrk Bezos was spotted wearing a rather zany, and quite possibly, the zaniest tuxedo suit we have ever seen. Seriously, even the statement outfits that we have come to associate with the Met Gala seemed understated and quaint. © Viral Bhayani The tuxedo Bezos was wearing is unconventional in every sense of the word. First, there's the fact that it has a very kitschy print, almost a zebra-like print, if you will. Then, there's the silhouette of the jacket itself. © Viral Bhayani Instead of the regular, flat or folded collars that we see people go for, here we have a tuxedo with an upright collar. Another unique aspect that makes the tuxedo rather unique, is the fact that the black shawled collars are rather thin, and do not end symmetrically at the torso, which gives it a 'Y' shape. Another aspect that makes the jacket grab so many eyeballs is that it has a reflective quality to it, almost as if it is made from a metallic material.  © Viral Bhayani Considering all this, it is a very unusual choice, even by Bezos' standards. Normally, he is spotted in some unstructured suits from the Italian luxury fashion house, Brunello Cucinelli. Their off the rack suits often retail for thousands of dollars, so one can only imagine what a bespoke piece might cost. © Reuters We say that because it's pretty safe to say that a man in Bezos' position is not likely to go for something off the rack when he is surrounded by the who's who of the world. © Viral Bhayani Coming back to the tux itself, it has been paired with a rather simplistic trouser, which, like most tuxedo sets, comes with a stripe at the side. We also like the patent leather tasselled slip-ons that Bezos has paired with the tux. They do stand apart in their own manner but do not overpower the statement jacket at all. © Viral Bhayani As zany as it may be, we have to say, the tuxedo is kinda cool. We're really digging the safari-vibe that the tux exudes.
